I love to read, however, I've not been hearing anything good about current books. Does anyone here have any recommendations? I'm mainly a fan of mystery, Syfy, and fantasy but would welcome anything that can hold my attention for a while.

May I recommend the Eragon trilogy by Christopher Paolini? Dragons, fairies and magic are all covered. The movie "Eragon" was not well received. Kind of corny actually but the books are wonderful.
IT by Stephen King is a great book but very creepy. If you like crime any Gresham book are great my favourite is The Firm. Star Trek First Contact is a brilliant read and The Devil wears Prada is also good.
If you haven't read Ender's Game, that's a great sci-fi book. For a mix of sci-fi, dystopian and fantasy, you should check out The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin. They were really good!
Thank you for all the book advice! I am really looking forward to checking out every one of these suggestions. I read a lot on Kindle and usually get free books there too. I have read practically all the ones that looked good that I saw so these will be interesting.
If you have Amazon Prime, they let you have a book for free every month, one of their new releases. They usually have something from every genre and all the ones I've read so far have been great. It might be a good way to get your hands on something new. If you don't have Prime, you should, haha.
I love that feature on Prime LKC. I sometimes have a hard time choosing which book I get every month. The crazy thing is I haven't read a one yet. I'm saving them all for a rainy day because my bookshelf is packed full of books I haven't read yet but am clicking them off one by one.
I use audible which I have £7,99 a month but is great for audible books.
I can't remember the last book I read but I recently got hold of Acts of Treason by Vince Flynn. It was published in 2006 but it is one thriller anybody will love.

Kira, it's a great feature. I haven't read all of mine either but it's nice knowing they're all there for the next rainy day or ride on a plane.

Laffy, I really like Audible too. I think the price is worth it if you listen to audiobooks enough.

It may be of help to join one of the book clubs in the various social media platforms. People usually comment from time-to-time and you can pick a few to start with. I am challenging myself to read more than 50 books next year.
That's great jack25. I have read so much over the years that I take it at a leisurely pace these days. I may be reading that many each year but haven't kept track. I think I will in 2018. Thanks for the idea!!
@Kira, I can't say I have done much reading in the past five years but like they say, there's never an arrival and/or departure time, when talking matters reading. I sincerely hope that diligence will be part of me, in the coming year.
