Are you a fan of a story where the music takes a central stage and is incorporated into dialogues and situations, much like real life musical stages? We have many popular titles like Glee and The Sound of Music, but Pitch Perfect is the one that really grabbed my attention.

I loved The Sound of Music Luna. However, the last musical movie I watched was the latest remake of Beauty and the Beast and was not impressed. There were too many songs and it seemed to irritate me.
I agree that too many times there are just too many songs in certain movies. It detracts from the general plot if you ask me. I only will watch for a short while and then change the channel. They just don't seem to hold my interest.
I'm really not into musicals. I just can't pay attention during songs. That being said, Pitch Perfect was better than most. It was funny and used modern music which is a big plus in my books. Unlike La La Land, which I was forced to sit through, and that made me want to claw my eyes out.

I totally relate to this and it could be the single reason that makes me not fancy musical movies. Nonetheless, there are really good ones that I've watched before, despite not remembering s single title.

@Bishop I don't exactly hate the songs. Good, but only a few are very memorable. How Does A Moment Lives Forever takes the crown, followed by Evermore.

@RainbowRoad I actually enjoyed La La Land's songs more if I compare it to Beauty and the Beast. They are incorporated better and executed with fun and style that we couldn't help moving our bodies too. The ending sequence is too confusing which is the weakest part of the movie.

Looks like this kind of genre has it better when the music is a direct part of the story than simply just an additional element.

@Luna, I'll be honest, I don't remember the ending. I don't even know if I made it there. I haven't seen the new Beauty and the Beast either, so I can't really make the comparison, but I get what you're saying. It had that effect on my girlfriend. Those kinds of movies just don't do it for me. It's not the kind of music that makes me want to dance. It makes me want to fast-forward.

No worries. Despite loving the integration of the music to the plot, I think I slept through most of the second half of La La Land. When I woke up, I was near the ending. It was good while the music was on the screen, but it lost me during the angsty parts.

Have you ever watched Begin Again? It's not exactly musical, but the plot involves music and perhaps that's the kind of presentation you'd like.

Haha, that will happen sometimes. I've never watched Begin Again before, never even heard of it actually. I'll have to look into it and give it a try. If it doesn't work, well, at least I can say I gave it the old college try. Thanks for the suggestion.
If the movie, like the music in horror films, tends to lead up to and help the plot, then I'm all for it. If they are just singing to be singing, I am not a big fan. Children's movies are different. I think it gives them something to take away from a good movie. Mine sings "Let it go" from the Frozen movie all the time.

Begin Again was pretty popular when it was released, although I also watched it late. It starred Keira Knightley and Adam Levine (plus Mark Ruffalo and Hailee Steinfeld), so you know why. I hope you enjoyed it. I actually like the songs and the course of the story.

Good point. Using Begin Again as an example, the song Lost Stars is the thing people (and I) remember most from the movie. On the contrary, I don't exactly remember anything from La La Land. I think that's what's important when we talk about the music: whether people will remember it and the associated movie when they hear it way in the future.
