What are your pet peeves?

Some of my biggest pet peeves that I can think of off the top of my head:

 

- Someone being on their phone in a movie theater (the screen is always so freaking bright)

- When people don't use their turn signals

- Super noisy eaters

I'm with you on all that, I'll also add people who have to slow down to a snail's pace a half mile before their turn.

Stupid drivers are right at the top of my list. Just before I got home, there was this idiot sitting at a flashing turn signal and didn't even move forward to get ready for a turn. Light turned red and then green and he finally moved. Ugh! So aggravating.

I can ignore everything around me except a barking dog and a screaming kid. Anything else is tolerable.

 

I leave cabinet doors open all the time, which will ping the pet peeve radar of many.

People who allow their dogs to crap on my lawn and then just walk away instead of having the decency to clean it up. Wish I could collect it, follow them home and throw it on their front doorstep. Come one! Have some consideration people.

I can't handle people who come into our workplace sick instead of using sick leave. I also cringe when a person coughs into the open air.

Oh, that's a good one! Reminds me of how I used to commute with this guy to work. He'd think nothing of sneezing in the car without covering his mouth and nose. Got to the point where I'd cover my mouth and nose when he'd sneeze. Told him I didn't want to breath in his sneezes. He got the point.

If it were me, I would have come up with a reason to stop driving to work with him. That's absolutely disgusting. In this day and age of medical awareness, I'm surprised that he thought it was all right to do that.

It annoys me to no end when people let rubbish fall onto the floor instead of emptying the bin. How lazy can you be?

 

@DandyMandy, I don't mind screaming kids so much as the mums and dads who ignore the tantrums.

It seems like most of my pet peeves are related to driving. I agree with all of the driving-related ones above. I'm with you on the screaming kids as well, @Ogmore. That only annoys me when the parents aren't responding to the situation at all.

 

I get really annoyed when young people don't give up their seats for elderly passengers on the Tube.

1. People who discipline their kids in public.

2. People with kids in public who haven't disciplined their kids enough in private.

3. People who smack while eating (this should be number 1).

4. Obnoxious people.

5. Spam mail.

@milyt g. planet, I'm with you on all of those except for the first one. It depends on the age of the child and the situation, but sometimes it can be appropriate. What kind of discipline are you talking about?

I'm talking about a couple of forms of discipline. The first one I'm talking about is the extreme kind of discipline where it actually isn't discipline at all, it's just a strong reaction by the parent to show all lookers-on that, "Hey, I really don't tolerate this type of behavior."

 

It seems like it's a way for the parent to save face when the child is doing something unruly, albeit completely harmless in some situations. For instance, if a child is picking things up off of the shelves just to have a look, and the parent over-reacts and starts giving the child a tongue lashing in the store. It's like, "Calm down, it's just a kid."

You can talk to a kid, you don't have to verbally berate them in front of strangers just because your child is taking things off of shelves and you think people will speak ill of you as a parent because of it .

 

The other extreme is people who seem to not discipline their child at home, so the child runs amok when out in public. In order to cover for their lack of discipline at home, they over-correct in public.

 

That being said, I think that light disciplining in public is okay, and necessary at times.
