Has anyone else watched the new Little Women mini-series? I had high expectations for it since I love the novel and have loved other shows from BBC. My expectations were not met. There were a few liberties taken that I wasn't particularly fond of, such as age differences and some modernisation of plotlines and characters. More importantly there just wasn't a whole lot of zest. It fell rather flat.

I'll be honest, I haven't seen any version of Little Women. I just wanted to say that it's kind of odd that BBC did a mini-series of an American novel. That's not to say they can't or that Americans haven't done plenty of movies/shows based on British literature (because there's about a thousand years worth of solid material there), I'm just curious whether or not this is a first for BBC.
Huh. I think you're right. This might be the first BBC mini-series based on something written by an American author. I could be wrong, but I just glanced through a few lists and didn't notice any programs that were based on something written by an American.

Did you see that there's talk of a new Little Women movie with Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, and Saoirse Ronan? I'd see it for Saoirse alone. I think she's pure magic. However, do we really need another adaptation of this novel? Why do things always seem to come in bundles these days?
I hadn't heard about that one! Saoirse really is amazing. Something tells me that they're going to make her play Amy. I don't think I'd want to see her in that role. Ideally, she would play Jo, Emma Stone would play Meg, and I think it's obvious who they want Meryl Streep to play. After watching this miniseries I'm not opposed to seeing someone else give another adaptation a try.
It was not great, she says, with gritted teeth. I really enjoy the 90s version, but I'm looking forward to seeing Greta's.

I really wanted it to be great. I didn't think it could rival the 90s version though. I think that's going to be a really hard one to top. I have a really hard time picturing anyone other than Winona as Jo.

I was surprised to see that Meryl Streep is not playing Marmee. She's going to play Aunt March. That makes more sense now that I think about it but I had automatically assumed Marmee.

It looks like others are predicting the same thing as me. I just saw another article that predicted Emma Stone would play Meg and Ronan would play Jo. She might be able to rival Winona.
