How do you feel about the live-action Disney movies trend? I think The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast were great, but I'm not so sure that The Lion King is going to translate well. I really hope that I'm proven wrong. Aladdin is also supposed to come out in 2019. I think that one should be good! Are there any other live-action films planned for Disney?

Disney is doing the same thing that all the other big companies are doing - remaking what's already been done. I've never liked any version better than the original and I wish they'd focus on creating new material. These remakes are just lazy.

I'm excited about some of the upcoming movies and feel that they're different enough to be intriguing. I think Tim Burton's version of Dumbo will be incredible. Dumbo is one of Disney's darkest films and Burton thrives in that genre. Supposedly Disney won't be using real elephants in the film which is a big plus to me.

I'm not sure about The Lion King either @The Wild Things. I saw the Broadway musical and it was spectacular. I don't think that magic would translate into film though.

I just googled Dumbo @ ShadowEdge and it looks intriguing. We will wait and see on this one. It is going to be difficult to recreate The Lion King. They will have to cast Mufasa and Simba as characters with a presence.

Tim Burton is doing Dumbo? I'll have to look that one up. He does thrive in darkness but I'm a little concerned about if it will still be super suitable for children (and will do a good job of maintaining the innocent magic of Disney). They rely on CGI these days, just like in The Jungle Book, so I wouldn't be worried about them using any kind of real animals in these live-action movies.

I haven't seen the Broadway version of The Lion King, @ShadowEdge, but maybe that has helped them learn things that work and don't work. I guess we'll have to see.

I still haven't seen The Jungle Book but I heard really good things about it. If they were able to do that movie well, I don't know why Lion King would be a big stretch. Tim Burton movies can be hit or miss for me, but I think Dumbo looks pretty good. The cast alone is stellar.

I think the Dumbo trailer looks fantastic! I like that Tim Burton can take a classic and really make it his own, like he did with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. That film and the original are so different that I'm not constantly comparing them, you know what I mean?

I'm hesitant about The Lion King as well but I'm going to try and be optimistic about it. I think Aladdin will be phenomenal as a live-action film though.

Have you ever imagined what would happen if the Genie, Tinkerbell, or the Beast was real? It was impossible with the technology decades ago, but now it isn't. Watching the trailer of Dumbo walking next to a real human makes us feel that it's real. "The magic and these creatures are real!" That may be a secondary goal other than the huge profits, but I can't say that is something I dislike having.

I get what both of you are saying but I think I'm going to have to agree with @Ogmore here. It does come across as lazy, especially when they've proven that they're still good at coming up with original ideas, like Frozen. Out of the three you mentioned, @North, only Aladdin hasn't had a live-action version made (I think). There are several live-action adaptations of Beauty and the Beast and a wonderful live-action version of Peter Pan with Jeremy Sumpter. They just don't happen to be Disney films. I understand why Disney wants to get in on making money from this. I just don't know if I believe they have purer motives than that. With the Marvel films and now the Star Wars films, it just seems like they're getting used to cranking out films super fast and this is the easiest way to do it.

You have a strong point, North, but there have been so many remakes and reboots by every film studio lately that it's just enough for me. It's lazy script writing, directing, and producing. It's rubbish to spend that much on a movie ticket for banal drivel! Our technology has changed; however, Frozen doesn't seem more real or more touchable than Disney's original Cinderella.

These shows and movies are made first for profit and second for fun. Well, viewers having fun usually translates to more profit, so I guess there is only one answer. I chose those titles on purpose; Disney is not the only culprit, but they will keep at it because there is always a chance to be successful. As lazy as it seems like, we will still walk away with full hearts when they do it right, so you won't find me complaining. I know it's not for everyone, though.

P.S.: I completely agree with you on Jeremy Sumpter's Peter Pan; I was truly smitten! Now I know what to re-watch during my free time.
