I've been watching a lot of stand-up comedy lately. My favourite comedian right now is John Mulaney. I find him a lot less crass than other comedians out there. He doesn't really on sex/gross jokes for humour. I find that is something a lot of comedians do, like Louis CK or Amy Schumer. I know that some people find that hilarious though. I'm just not a huge fan of it most of the time. Who is your favourite?

I won't sue you, @Zack T. I think Dane Cook is hilarious too. I don't know why he's got such a bad rep.

 

I like Bo Burnham. His stand-up is a little different because it's got a lot of musical elements, but he's very clever. I don't know if he'd be your type of comedian though, @Evie, because he can be very crass.

Jo Brand is very good! She has quite a dry and subtle sense of humour. She is good as stand up, and also when chairing shows such as Have I Got News for You.

 

She started out in the late eighties on the pub and club circuit in London, and finally got on to television, and became better known from there.

 

I saw her live once in London and she was hilarious.

I have two favourites and that's Chris Rock and Robin Williams. Even though both blokes are multitalented, they're still very relatable. It's a shame that Robin Williams battled depression.

Robin Williams' death still breaks my heart, @Poppy. It's sad that someone who gave us so much laughter and joy was battling depression.

 

Most of the comedians I like are crass so I don't know if they'd be up your alley, @Evie. One of the less crass people I really like is Dan Cummins.

If anyone on here is into retro-comedy, try putting "Dick Emery" into YouTube. It seems that he was very popular in the UK in the sixties and seventies, and a lot of his humour plays to the stereotypes of the time. See the sketches where street interviews are being done: he plays the easily shocked vicar, flamboyant young man who shops in Carnaby Street, and one or two other characters.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions! I'll have to look into all of these people. @Zack T, I find Dane Cook funny as well! I think I've heard a lot of his stuff by now though. Does he still create new content? I feel like I haven't heard anything about him in a long time.

Have you ever seen "Laugh In"? I've watched taped episodes and that stuff is hilarious. It's clean by today's standards, but also by todays standards there is a lot of material there that wouldn't make it out to the public these days. It's interesting to watch old stuff like that to see how much has changed.

 

But my favorite of all time is George Carlin.
