I saw a bunch of makeup transformation videos on Facebook and, my God, it's insane what people can do with makeup, like completely changing their appearance.

I know (or assume that I know) that women don't put use makeup to change their appearances as drastically as in the video above. They are using it to change their appearance though, not just enhance their features. When did that start happening (outside of movies, plays, etc.)? How much makeup does the average woman wear each day? How much do you think is too much?

I'm a girl who likes makeup but I have a controversial opinion on this: any girl who says they do it for themselves only, is lying. Because trust and believe when she is home by herself, she is not putting on a full face of makeup! I like the art of makeup and think it is cool, but I would never wear such a full face of makeup out on a date or anywhere out in public anyway. I don't want people to think I look different than what I actually look like.
I'm with @FlyyGurl. I like makeup as much as the next person. I put it on for me sometimes, but with strings attached. I want to feel more confident and what's making me feel more confident? Thinking that the opposite sex will find me more attractive. I certainly don't wear makeup when there's no one else around unless I'm just playing. It doesn't stay on though. I use it to enhance features, not try to change what I look like. I don't want to be deceptive or anything, just get a boost of confidence.
Makeup is an art. Like artists, there are those who can rise above the rest, and they make a masterpiece. I know some women in our area that don't know how to apply proper makeup. Their looks became worse compared to having no makeup at all.
I am against makeup if a lady feels she has to apply it in order to meet expectations of a man or in order to look attractive. But if someone just likes to wear it because it's part of their style or they enjoy the process or whatever, then more power to you

Does it still count as wearing it for yourself if you wear it to feel confident? People probably don't need the confidence boost unless they're around other people. I don't think people should try to look completely different with makeup. Firstly, I can't imagine how much time that takes. Secondly, it just perpetuates this whole idea that people aren't beautiful enough on their own. If you want to be pretty then you can buy something to make you pretty. I just think that's a toxic idea, especially considering how subjective beauty is in the first place.

There's nothing wrong with that. I don't know is it really all about the opposite sex's attention? I've read some stuff on Quora (not always a reliable source) about how girls will sometimes dress up and put makeup on for other women. I don't know how true that is, but I found it interesting. I can't recall the exact reasoning behind it. I'll have to look that up again.

That's true. Some people really know how to use makeup to their advantage. I just don't think that the above looks are attractive in a "real world" way. Objectively, the finished product can look beautiful on YouTube. But if I saw someone walking down the street with that much makeup on, I don't think I'd find it attractive. I can't really say though. As far as I know, I've never seen someone with that much on.

I agree that it shouldn't be something that women feel is mandatory in order to be attractive. I guess I'm just curious if women think that wearing a lot of makeup (to the point where you have altered your appearance pretty significantly) is attractive or think that men find it attractive. I'm also curious how many people do it just for them.

Yeah, like the video you posted initially, if she goes out looking like that, that's not good. She knows she doesn't look like that. But in the case of the video, I consider that art, assuming she doesn't wear that out in public. And the confidence boost, I don't know. I don't think that counts as wearing it for yourself. Because if nobody would notice or comment on it, does that still boost your confidence?

@FlyyGurl, I'm really hoping that no one goes out like that. I totally agree that it's art, I just hope it's art for art's sake. Yeah, you're right, it's still about getting a certain kind of attention from others.
What I don't like about makeup is that there are women who will spend a fortune for makeups. The makeup will be erased at the end of the day, and they need a facial cleanser to remove the makeup completely. A simple blush-on is good enough for me.
I don't know if I am allowed to have an opinion on this, but I do prefer girls who don't go out wearing a whole lot of makeup, because I like to be able to see a girl's face, rather than having to try and get through 5 layers of makeup first. I do understand the art side of it as people have mentioned, even though it isn't interesting to me.

Wow, that really is a transformation! Well, I'm a woman and I scarcely wear any make-up. Just a little powder, and a little moisturising lipstick. I sometimes wonder about wearing foundation, and whether it would make my skin look better. However, luckily, my skin is in quite good condition, so I feel no compelling reason to wear a lot of make-up.

Make-up can look very nice, but the trouble is, once you get used to wearing it, it takes forever to get ready in the morning, or to go out to meet friends.
