I'm slowly but surely making my way through a list of cult films. I haven't found that all of them are worth the hype. Some of them have been wonderful though. I'm about to watch Donnie Darko and I'm worried I'm going to end up scarred for life. I've heard some disturbing things about that film.

What are your favourite cult classics? Are there any you're not a big fan of?

I've not heard of that one. Did you chance it, Maya? I'm curious as to whether I should send a therapist or cute puppy to help you recover. The idea is so dreadful that I dare not look it up. Yes, I'm a baby.

I like a some of the campy stuff. Anything with Tim Curry in it is first rate with me.

@Poppy, I've come to find that there are a lot of cult classics I've never even heard of before. I did chance it. I don't think a therapist is necessary but a cute puppy is always welcome. It was one of those films that was more disturbing than scary.

Tim Curry is a gem. :inlove:

I don't understand the hoopla about The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I've tried to like it, but it seems absolutely ridiculous and not the funny kind of ridiculous either. On the other hand, I still can't get enough of The Princess Bride and watch it once a year if not more often.

I'm not able to recall a specific cult film I for sure didn't like. I forget how I felt about Clerks, though. I know a couple scenes and the ending were stand out moments, but I don't remember why.

I can say the Japanese animated film Angel's Egg is very visually interesting and well made, even if it's a bit vague story-wise. A nice, solid mood and atmosphere in that movie, and that's always something I can appreciate.

I’m a big fan of Kevin Smith’s movies but hated Clerks

What did you think? When I get angry, I think of something that Elizabeth Darko said to Donnie at dinner. Shouldn't say it here.

I didn't care for Clerks, either.

Donnie Darko is brilliant! I am sure that you will not have any problems with it - it is not frightening or disturbing, but poignant. I especially love the music that they use from Tears for Fears.

The challenging thing about Donnie Darko is trying to work out the actual plot. I would watch the film and then do a bit of reading up afterwards to try and make sense of it.

The Big Lebowski is a somewhat overrated cult classic. Really good cast, cool music, and some funny dialogue, but the story wasn't that engaging. The Coen brothers have done better.
Another film that I believe has cult status is Twelve Monkeys with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. The ending scenes put a little lump in my throat! I've seen it a couple of times already.
