"Pop" music??

I was flicking through the music channels the other day and i came across MTV showing the top 10 "pop" chart of the year (or something like that)

Anyway in this "pop" chart there were bands such as Blink 182. This is kinda strange considering personally i would not clasify Blink under "pop" music!

To me "pop" implies groups such as Westlife (Woohoo) and all that malarky! Where as Blink would be classed under Rock / Nu-Metal kinda thing!

The actual meaning of "pop music" is popular music, hence the reason that ( i am guessing ) Blink were put into this chart!

 

Therefore, Shouldn't there be another title to class groups like Westlife (Woohoo) under?? (Apart from Crap)

I wouldn't class Blink 182 as nu metal either, mainly because they're not suicidal or wear out their vocal cords screaming in-decypherable lyrics.

That wasnt the point..... The point was, why was Blink classified under "Pop" when the meaning of "Pop" according to most people consists of Westlife?

i would class blink as punk rock. nu metal is like sum 41, limp bizkit.

maybe, but every classes bands differently. sum 41 are actually nu metal, some ppl dont think so tho.

weird innit, but when blink 182 were orginally going to do there uk tour back in november, then put back to january now cancelled there warm up act were sum 41

The Sex Pistols are punk. Bad Religion are punk. The Ramones are Punk.

 

Blink 182 and Sum 41 are not punk.

Hi Jo/C9! I dunno, i just happened to walk in whilst Blink were on and saw that it was the top 10 of "pop" and then walked straight back outta the room...

It was a crappy blink song anyway just thought i would make a point! :)

If they ain't punk or nu metal, that only leaves one type that they could be and that type is Pop.

But how can it be "pop" music if we all class "pop" music as Westlife type stuff?? Coz Bands such as blink definatly arent like that!!
