New Crisps

Well, the floodgates have opened.

 

Having many contacts in the industry (I work in a shop), I'm always the first to try out new products before they hit the shelves. Now that a lot of new crisps are out for summer time, which ones do you like? I'll channel the spirit of ACID Christ and that Oz from Food And Drink, to bring you the latest on all things crispy.

 

Monster Munch Vanilla Ice Cream- On first impression, you're overpowered by sweetness. Sweet crisps have never stuck around long, just ask Chocolate flavour. The after taste though, is anything but sweet. These crisps almost remind me of the Pink Wafers you used to get, but with a different substance. I don't think the flavour is suited to crisps, and the two entities don't gel together. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being Walkers Roast Chicken, 10 being Marks And Spencers' Honey Roast Ham), I'd give these a 3.

 

Fish and chip flavoured French Fries- The flavour seems very familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on where I tasted it before. Anyway, along with most crisps that try to combine 2 flavours into one, it fails, and the result is a snack that tastes nothing like chips, but certainly have a fishy flavour. Your enjoyment of seafood will affect how much you like these crisps. My rating, a 7.

 

McCoy's Steak and John Smith's Ale flavoured crisps- VERY disapointing. I had high hopes for these crisps, as the alcoholic beverage element of flavour has rarely been touched by crisps (Unless you count prawn COCKTAIL), but I'm sorry to say that these crisps are just a renaming of the Walkers Max Steak flavour. There's no taste of Ale at all in the crisp, and all your left with is the beefy flavour. Fortunatly for McCoys, the Steak Walkers Max are really quite delicious, so while I do recommend the crisps, marks are taken off for advertising the crisps to include beer flavourings. I give them a 7.

 

Walkers Sensations Spare Rib and 5 Spices- Now we're talking! Taking inspiration from Nik Naks, Walkers have taken the Spare Rib flavouring to another level with these beauties. With a fabulous authentic Chinese taste and a slight hint of spice, you'll be going Oriental Mental over these Eastern Delights. Good work from the legends of Leicester. These get a 9.

 

Marks And Spencers Bombay Curry- You'd be forgiven for thinking that these are a rehashing of McCoy's Balti Curry flavour, but you'd be wrong. M+S have gone old school, and developed their own flavourings. With a pretty nice taste (Similar to the curried potato thing you often get at Indian restraunts, I'm sure MLM will know), the only thing letting down the snack is the poor crisps themselves, which are slightly soggy and don't retain flavour well. Still, probably worth a taste, although M+S are capable of producing better things. I'll give these a 6.

 

Keep a look out for Walkers Sensations Mango Chutney flavour, I know I will. And feel free to post your own thoughts.

This is slightly off the topic, but when I went to Wales, they had Vanilla Coke, like drinking Coke with a tint of vanilla ice cream at the end, was rank. Anyone else had this?

I first tried vanilla coke when i went to New York last November, i thought it tasted lovely, and i am really glad it has finally mad its way across the ocean. as for the crisps that Russ mentioned above i havent seen any of them in shops.

Those Monster Munch are yummy.....I also love the new Walkers Shots, Nicely Spicely flavour
