WCW?

Ok then everyone, I have noticed that there are no WCW tapes or DVD's being released. Now while many people may not have liked WCW when then finally closed shop, the fact remains that they were number 1 for 2 years, so why aren't any tapes or DVD's of past PPV coming out? ECW shows are released all the time and I'm sure that WCW DVD's and tapes would see just the same.

 

Now I'm not very up to date with wwe legal deals but I was under the impression that the WWE owned everything from WCW and ECW, so it is they that release the past footage, so why are they releasing ECW and not WCW. I may however be wrong about this.

 

So thats basically my point, why are there no WCW DVD's being released of past PPV's?

i think WWE owns all (or at least most) of the WCW tapes, and...well you know Vince hates most things WCW (hence one of the reasons the Invasion angle failed, since he wasn't willing to let the WCW side get any decent victories)...so that's probably one of the reasons we are not gonna see any past WCW PPV's released for a long time

Its stupid cause Vince could make an absolute mint selling old WCW and ECW vids. Tis really quite astonishing why he doesn't

If you can remember back when the WWE first aquired the WCW brand, a few WCW tapes were still being sold. I remember seeing a few on Silvervision.co.uk

 

I think that a reason why they have been retracted is that they carried the Warner Brothers logos and although the footage is now owned by WWE, I think there was some dispute over the the content before the videos started (adverts, copywrite rules etc) and also the packaging caused some disputes.

 

Another reason could have been the WWE having to also take away all of their past PPV & compalation tapes had some barring on the decsion not to release any WCW footage. But I wouldnt say that this caused too much of a problem.

 

A sure way to find out would be maybe emailing silvervision of the WWE itself. But whether they reply or give a straight answer would be questionable. But hey, it could be worth a try.

I think it would be a good idea for WWE to release some old WCW and ECW I'm sure people would buy them for nostalgic reasons

I cna;t see it being aobut the WB logo, as you'd just use the footage rather than an exact copy of released tapes, if you get what I mean?

I'm a bit surprised to read this seeing as the HMV I was in last week had a load of old WCW videos in it. :?

Were I work, we keep things as residual. Example, Wrestlemania 16 ring is still in stock, just not on plannagram to put out.

OK - Read this - this is the story on why no new WCW videos is being released - Read it VERY carefully right?

 

 

When WWE purchased WCW - they also obtained all video libraries - WWE clearly has no plans to release past WCW PPV's

 

The talk about being the Warner Brothers label and other things is utter rubbish and non-existent.

 

The reason ECW DVD's is still ongoing is because that WWE hasn't yet purchashed the remaining assests of ECW.

from what i hear the WWE are in talks with big network people to open there own 24/7 wrestling channel within the next 2 years...also i heard that they dont want to release any dvd,vhs of WCW due to that reason....we have discussion on my forum about this very same subject...im sure there is a topic about it somewhere on my forum (link is sig)

 

its a very interesting question...ive wondered this for some time...but like i said i beleave the wwe are trying to start there own wrestling channel...much like HBO,Showtime...ect....but show nothing but wrestling.
