TWO - Why?

I have just read through the ‘Writers Challenge’ and I have to say that I am shocked that TWO encourages criminal activity.

I bet the owners of this site and the moderators of the forum would be the first ones to jump on some tribute promotion for ripping people off!

Why then do they encourage their readers to commit a crime and support a company that breaks copyright law?

About Copyright Theft

Under the current law, copyright theft is as follows;

Offences: Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 Under Section 107(1) a person commits an offence who, without the licence of the copyright owner - (a) makes for sale or hire, or (b) imports into the United Kingdom otherwise that for his private and domestic use, or © possesses in the course of a business with a view to committing any act infringing the copyright, or (d) in the course of a business - (i) sells or lets for hire, or(ii) offers or exposes for sale or hire, or(iii) exhibits in public, or(iv) distributes, or (e) distributes otherwise than in the course of a business to such an extent as to affect prejudicially the owner of the copyright, an article which is, and which he knows or has reason to believe is, an infringing copy of a copyright work.Under Section 107(2) a person commits an offence who - (a) makes an article specially designed or adapted for making copies of a particular copyright work, or (b) has such an article in his possession, knowing or having a reason to believe that it is to be used to make infringing copies for sale or hire or for use in the course of a business. Under Section 107(3) where copyright is infringed (otherwise than by reception of a broadcast or cable programme) - (b) by the public performance of a literary, dramatic or musical work, or(b) by the playing or showing in public of a sound recording or film, any person who caused the work to be so performed, played or shown is guilty of an offence if he knew or had reason to believe that copyright would be infringed.

If thats the case, than surely the numerous "Highlanders" around (one of which your in business with Spinner) can be sued by Davis Panzer Promotions Ltd...or is that getting too personal...

I notice this is only your second post here. Are you just here to stir up trouble or do you want to be a part of this community?

Basically he's saying that TWO is breaking copyright laws by giving a video to the winner of a competition, like most TV and radio stations also do. Why someone would be so keen to bring this to our attentions and expect us to care is down to whatever Wrestlingdatabase's reasons are.

Ok so my post got some peoples back up. Not really what I intended to do, but hey I can’t help how people react.

The comments that are up just now, I will answer the best I can and hope that it does not rile anyone else.

TTV

As far as I am aware, Highlander can not be copyrighted as it is a common name. Might be wrong here, but I believe it is like copyrighting Undertaker. As Undertaker is a professional name it can not be copyrighted to a sole entity.

I am not in business with anyone but myself. The training that I help out with at BCW is done for free. I enjoy helping people learn this business providing they show it the correct respect.

Draven

Erm, made a mistake posting in the wrong place, hey we are not all perfect.

I asked a question, pointing out facts and providing evidence to support the facts. If this is not what you want or not considered being part of your community then I guess I am in the wrong place. I believed that freedom of speech was allowed in this country and that there were not dictatorial entities.

Its up to you wither you want to delete my account

Radio and T.V. stations give out copyright material, not copied material.

The reason I brought it up was I was interested to know why it is ok to have morals some of the time then turn a blind eye to them when it suits.

The revenue that is brought in to companies by selling their products helps them to promote more events and pay wages. By purchasing copied material you are not helping these companies to grow.

I can understand why people think it is ok to copy WWE stuff as they make a fortune, but that is still not an excuse.

as far as the tribute thing goes:

When a Tribute company promotes their tributes they advertise "The Rock" or "Stone Cold Steve Austin"....they do not mention that this is purely a tribute show, conning young children into believing that said characters will be at the show.

As far as Tape Traders are concerened, we all know that the tapes are copied...does it make it right...no, but this business has been going on for years...does it make it right....no, are we being conned out of our money into believeing that the product is legit....no! It is up to the buyers descretion to buy bootleg videos from traders, we know they are bootleg, if you win the competition you don't have to accept the prize.

Oh Spinner, Stevie Knight was telling me a road story when you and him were travelling from Scotland back to Grimsby and Stevie really needed to urinate.....Stevie did the same thing to me only it was from Scunthorpe to London.....I'm holding you personally responsible! ;)

I don't see any need for your account to be deleted.

I just got the impression you were here to be confrontational. If I took that the wrong way and you are going to contribute to TWO then that is great.

Hi,

Welcome to the forums :)

This is the 4th TWO Writers Challenge in association with SiMania and your the first person to point that out.

The majority of tapes Si offers are not available any other way (unless from other similar traders). I think its a great way for some of the UK fans to see wrestling action from abroad which if it wasnt for traders like Si, wouldnt even be accessible. And I’m sure there are a lot of people who appreciate him for that.

I’m extremely happy to have http://www.SiMania.co.uk sponsor the competition.

1) Freedom of speech is out of the door as soon as you enter a public forum. You abide by the set criteria or get out. And even if it has followed the rules, as your has, you still can't expect not to get backlash from it. Sounds harsh but it would be a good idea to remember that. Remember, this site is a privilidge, not a right, so be careful how you use that "freedom of speech".

2) So you've never downloaded a song from the internet. You've never bought a copied video? How about reading someone elses newspaper or magazine? You've never read someone elses newspaper? Or eaten someone elses food when ocver at their house for dinner? You have no excuse to do that. It saves you money, but it's costing nice companies like 'Daily Telegraph' money because you're reading it without paying for the privilidge. Same thing, no? Close enough though, especially how you've described it, anyway.
