From BBC Sport:

Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe has died after collapsing during an international match in France, world football's governing body Fifa has confirmed.

The 28-year-old was taken ill in the Confederations Cup semi-final against Colombia in Lyon.

More to follow.

He was a great player, was at City last year on loan if I'm correct and I think they were interested in signing him.

Thats very, very sad news. :(

Just heard this terrible news, seems he was playing in the match, went up for a header, no challenge or anything and just fell to the ground, dead. He was in real good form for City last year as well. I remember his screamer of a goal that was in the Goal Of The Season competition. What a sad, sad loss. R.I.P Foe.

That is very sad news - I first admired Foe's talent at Man City when he played on loan - and City was interested in signing him on a permanent contract.

He was a skilled player.

Marc-Viven Foe - RIP

Really surprising and sad news.

Henry dedicated his first goal tonight to Foe, it must take alot for Coupet the French keeper and Govu to play tonight, they were Foe's team mates at Lyon and brokedown into tears during the National Anthems.

Blimey I can't believe that, I saw the end of the match on Eurosport and the guys in the studio were saying what happened with Foe looked nasty and they hope he's OK, I thought perhaps he broke his leg or something but never imagined this, it's terrible news.

RIP Mark Vivien Foe :cry

P.S. FIFA should ask his family what they think b4 playing sundays match not decide wether it should go ahead themselves.....

I just read this, what a tragic thing to happen. They really should have stopped the tournament then I think, but respect to the players who were able to continue. Condolences must go to his family and friends. It's just not something you would think possible in this day and age, especially with what a physically fit guy he was. What a sad thing to happen, RIP Marc.

When something bad happens to Man City or other teams I don't like, it's safe to say I usually point and laugh. But in such circumstances like this, you can only stop for a moment and mourn, and think about it. When a human being, especially as talented as this guy seemed to be, dies, no matter what the circumstances, it's always a damn shame. When it happens this way at that age, you can only ask why? No one deserves that to happen, NO ONE, especially at that age.

RIP Marc. Best wishes to his family, especially his wife and new born child (God I feel so sorry for them).:(

I cant really believe it, he was a talented player and will be sadly missed. I loved watching him play when he was at west ham, and when he played for man city he was brilliant, and to think he was only 28. RIP Marc:cry

That is much the same as how i found out, they cut to the scenes of him collapsing and i was hoping he wouldn't be badly injured or anything as City were hoping to sign him back this week. Infact i was talking to a City internet friend just yesterday afternoon saying i was hoping we would sign him soon. :( Then to find out what happened just before the french game was just absolutely terrible. I am deeply upset over it and can't believe it has happened. He was a great player, a very happy man and with a young family to. It must of been terrible for them watching it unfold on the pitch. Life is very cruel. RIP Marc and thanks for everything from a very sad Man City Fan. :(

like kj i watched the match on eurosport and was dumbstruck when he collapsed. I naively thought he would be ok but alas he sadly passed on:cry i thought it was a nice gesture for henry and the french team to dedicate the first goal to marc, they did well to say they only heard the news minutes before the match.the cameroon players will bear shirts with foe on in sunday final, sepp blatter has also said fifa are considering having the confederations cup bear foe's name which would be a fitting tribute. my condolences go to the family friends and teamates of Marc Vivien Foe

R-I-P Marc:cry :cry
