There were a lot of great games this year…. almost too many. I know people said that last year too, but 2024 was particularly packed with intriguing indies or AAs. Since we’re coming up on the holiday break, I’m curious if people are going to dive into their backlog and if there are any 2024 games on it?

Personally, I hope to check out Indika, Echo Point Nova, Emio, and Arctic Eggs. Can you tell I’m a PC player?

Still also playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is excellent by the way!

I’ve actually been playing Indy too. But I’m also bad at playing new video games, so I jumped into the HD Remaster of FFX-2. I have Alan Wake 2, Hades II, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Rebirth to play, but here I am. Playing a super old game like a fool.

Haha. I’ve been thinking of playing Alan Wake Remastered despite playing the original like 5 times so I’m not too far off.

I’m trying to channel any gaming time I get into Astro Bot and Prince of Persia before jumping into anything else.

There’s SO MUCH on my must play list.

Too much to play? Can't decide? Play an old game.

I played 15 minutes of Hitman the other day. I’m checking all the boxes 😎

Which Hitman though

Hitman 3. I beat the trilogy a couple years ago, but got the itch to do some silly stealth shenanigans.

And then I started the World of Assassins content. Those games are legit.

I think I got to Hitman too late so now it’s way too low on my list >.>

This is my problem with some of my backlog games. I have Witcher 3 on my backlog, and I played it for a few hours a long time ago - but then I was like, “This is a lot of game.” I may eventually sit down and play it, but I don’t know if I will. The past few years, I’ve been focusing on shorter games and maybe 1-2 longer games, which helps a bit. Games that move fast certainly help - oh, and anything you pick up and can just jump right back into without forgetting what the hell you were doing.

This is 10000% what I’ve been doing.

The Witcher 3 thing also happened to me. I played like a dozen hours but it’s a complicated game in terms of gameplay so once I put it down for a few weeks I knew I was never going to pick it up again unless I restarted it. The only game I feel comfortable putting down and picking back up that’s as big is Baldur’s Gate 3, but I’ve also had way more fun this year with smaller games anyway (Little Kitty Big City, Mouthwashing, 1000XResist) or games that are easy to pick back up after a break (Silent Hill 2 remake).

I love Little Kitty Big City! I’ve found I’ve been playing more games like that. Too many triple-A games can be exhausting.

Yeahhhhh. I have to play some since I cover video games, but shorter indies have been way more satisfying for me this year. Also there were just so many good ones.

Were there any games that you covered that really surprised you? There’s always room to add more to the backlog 🤣

I'm still playing Indiana Jones, but I'm really into Astro Bot as of late. I missed platformers - I can see why this is game of the year.

It's so good! Every level in that game is uniquely amazing. And the music slaps. I think that's the reason 'Trunk of Funk' is my favorite level so far. It's hard to top this brilliance, though.

Bot of War = Peak music brilliance. The levels are super fun and unique, I agree. It's also bright, colorful, and cute. And also can be brutally punishing. Just like the old days.

I especially love one of the sections in Astro Bot (spoiler)

The Uncharted section was so much fun. I loved that Astro had his little paint ball shooter gun. I love how they capture each one of the franchises perfectly.

Ditto! There are so many great nostalgia trips, too.

The ape escape level was amazing. I spent so many hours playing those games back in the day.

I appreciate the attention to detail in every level. I wonder what's next!

So, I know I should pick up Indiana Jones again, since I beat Astro bot. Or Alan Wake 2. Or final fantasy 7 rebirth. But I think I want to pull out my N64 and play ocarina of time instead. 🤣🤣🤣
