October 23, 200321 yr Fifa doesn't come out until tomorrow, but I'll let you know when it's released for the PC on the 7th November ;)
October 23, 200321 yr Surely FIFA 2004 will be the greatest ever if it allows you to play Norwich or the mighty Plymouth Argyle! :)
October 25, 200321 yr CVG has rated club football as poor, despite having above average presenatation, visual graphics and tacticalness...it dosen't have the raz-ma-tazz of FIFA or the sublime gameplay of PES3 (4/10), They've said this Fifa's is the best yet to date, but it's slower tempo will take a little getting use to and the lack of attacking options is a bit of a shortcoming (got 8/10) but PES3 was the best of the bunch (which got 10/10 despite lack of online play, lack of teams and no proper names (for god sake FIFA...or whoever is in charge of giving out the lisences...just give one konami) Since PES3 is going for cheap (£20) near where i go to college, i should be getting that in two weeks :D may try and get Fifa as well...but i wanna get online thing for PS2 before that
October 25, 200321 yr A few points in defence of PES3. 1- It HAS licensed teams, just not as many as FIFA. Nearly every Italian team is licensed, as well as Feyernoord, with real player/club names and exact replicas of their stadiums. 2- PES3 has real names, so to suggest that the game has "no proper names" is stupid. Look at the England team: identical representations of the players, real names and their real attributes. The only big teams that don't have real names are Germany, Holland and Wales. Even then, when you have the left winger Gills crossing to the fat, ginger striker Harson, you don't need to be a genius to work out who it is. And if you find this so awful, you can either A- edit the game yourself to include real names, which is easy and quick to do or B- buy the unofficial update for only about £7, which does it all for you, and unlocks everything in the game. 3- FIFA can try, try and try again to make their gameplay the best, but I'm glad to say that it's common knowledge that the PES series is by far the most realistic. Yes, FIFA games sell well, but in my opion, only because of their licensing. This time, EA have included loads and loads of teams, but without much detail, while Konami have put in every major club in Europe, and a whole lot more, and they're extremely detailed. What annoys me about EA is the company policy to come out every year and say "OK, last year's game wasn't our best effort, but this year we've added SO much more!". They've been doing it since about 1999/2000, and there's only so many times you can believe them. Taking advantage of GAME's return in 10 days and get your money back policy, I bought FIFA on Friday, because whenever I talk to a FIFA-die hard, and mention how unrealistic FIFA Pinball is compared to PES, they say "I bet you haven't played this year's game, it's SO much better!". Well, this year I have. It's barely an improvement on FIFA 2003, and without the updated/extra teams (Which I have to say have been poorly done, when you look at how generic every player who isn't a world superstar looks) and the sometimes good-sometimes bad off the ball mechanism, it would be a step back. Shooting STILL isn't anywhere near the level of realism that PES3 is on. It's still impossible to drill a low screamer into the bottom right hand corner in FIFA. You either smash it high or tap it along the ground. So here's a fair, well researched look at both games- PES3 Pros: Good graphics Incredibly realistic New skill moves that can only be pulled off by brilliant players, and are difficult to do Fun to play, while being accurate to the sport Loads of replayability due to new "Shop mode" Cons: Poor Commentary Wales, Holland and Germany squads have altered players' names Have to unlock transfer mode, meaning that it's pointless to go club teams until you can update them FIFA Pros: Good graphics Good commentary (compared to PES) Loads of teams Cons: Totally unrealistic Very little detail on smaller teams Skill moves are still too easy to do with everyone It's just not fun to play, whether in a one or two player mode. I would give PES3 9/10 (I've never played a football game good enough to get 10/10) and FIFA would get 5/10. If PES didn't exist, FIFA might be worth getting. But it does, so don't even think of filling EA's pockets with more undeserved cash for putting out an unrealistic game that doesn't feel like your playing football. Konami are still bringing the goodness with PES3, but they should try to get their rosters a bit more up to date, or at least provide a transfer option from the start.
October 26, 200321 yr I think that between FIFA Road to World Cup 98 and FIFA 2001 inclusive, EA did just wheel out the same old game year after year, but in 2002 I think there was major changes and the same for the last two years, this year none of them for the better. As a FIFA die hard I have to say after an afternoon of playing, that this years FIFA is poor, it's worse than last years effort. Whoever came up with this "Off the Ball" thing needs shooting. Heres what happens, you'r running through the centre, looking to make a pass, theres no movement ahead because you have to create it yourself, so you tap R2 and start moving the player you want to pass to, while you do all this you take your eye off the ball and get tackled, it's a nonsense. I think they came up with the advertising slogan "It's not what you do on the ball, it's what you do off it" first, then created the game around that. I'm normally willing to accept what I've always considered to be a small difference in quality of gameplay, to get what I believe is always a more in depth game with enough tournaments to keep me going until next years game arrives, which would have been enough this year especially with the managment sim included, but I just can't get the hang of this gameplay, I'll give it till next weekend than I may well be returning it.
October 27, 200321 yr I'm also an FIFA die-hard, having played the series since the SNES days and I thought FIFA 2004 was by far the best game of the series and I've played all FIFA games since FIFA 96! Really enjoyed the new features - allowed me to think more who to pass and the improved free kick and corner methods has seen me reguarly score goals from corners and free kicks - even from an distance - I could boot them in. I also thought the "Career Mode" was very good, you must try to meet all the objectives to give you more prestige points and enhance your reputuation. And the arguing scenes are very inspired too! I played the xbox version mind - the controls are very easy to get used to. I will be fair and I won't critise PES3 because I've not played them as I don't own an PS2 - just an Xbox - so I thought I would pass on my views on FIFA 2004.
October 27, 200321 yr Originally posted by Chris2K New Free-Kick system? Bugger, I've just got the hang of the old one :( FIFA 2003 had a ball and a swinging meter next to the ball - you had to choose the spin and try to get the meter to stop in the green spot to execute the "sweet spot". But FIFA 2004 still has the ball but you can't spin topwards - just sideways and the bottom part of the ball - but the power meter has changed, it's a bar now and you really have to work to find the sweet spot. For me, it's NOT the middle of the grey bit - more like the left side - I always try to catch it and always it has gone in :)
October 31, 200321 yr Well after a week with FIFA 2004, I decided it was no improvment on 2003 and it was returned, and replaced with Pro Evolution Soccer 3. My problems with FIFA 2004's gameplay were overcome after a day, then I noticed another problem, a problem I never felt I'd experience in a FIFA game, a lack of competitions. The career mode wasn't up to much for me, this "prestige points" thing was stupid. "Sorry but altholugh Manchester United have the funds to buy Raul, you can't as you don't have enough prestige points." :? So I thought, "ah well lets just set up a trusty old custom tournament", when to my shock and sadness it was nowhere to be found, if you don't want to play in the career all you have left is a load of FA Cup competitions from around the world, not too great. So as I felt the gameplay wasn't improved from 2003, I took it back. Now, onto Pro Evo, at first I'm thinking, "hang on is this some sort of sick joke", It looks excactly the same as International Superstar Soccer, a game that was launched by Konami around the time the PS2 was launched, and we were all well informed by our magazines that it was not ISS Pro of PS1 fame. But PES3 looks excactly the same, the graphics are poor, the sounds even worse, the game doesn't seem to flow, you can't get a passing rhythm going and it's just too fast to be an accurate representation of real football. I've found myself running the ball from end to end which seems to be the most successful tactic. On first impressions I'm not getting it at all, from all I had heard I was expecting to be blown away by this true to life football experience and it just isn't that. It reminds me of one of those 30p per play football arcade games of the early 90's, where it always ended up with a Brazil vs Italy final. And I'm not even going to start getting to the state the teams are in, do the sumer transfers not mean anything to Konami? This is all after just 1 match, which I lost to Northern Ireland on pens, so I'll keep on playing and maybe it'll grow on me.
November 1, 200321 yr Is the gameplay and graphics similar to PES2? I played that one on a mate's PS2 and found it to be quite good - but I own an X-Box and Konami seems to ignore us wee X-Box owners :cry
November 5, 200321 yr I've played the latest installments of both the Fifa and Pro Evo series! I gotta say the new Fifa is the best yet and kicks Pro Evo's ass in all departments, not only graphics and presentation, but with game play too! The Off the Ball feature in Fifa is dificult to get the hang of first, but is brilliant when you do! The prestige points in career mode is great because you can't just manage a top team like Chelsea before provving yourself as a manager and expect to get loads of prestige points, if you start off with a team from the lower divisions and help them climb the leagues, you'll increase your manager rating and therefore increase your prestige points, so it makes sense if you think about it! Plus, with this iincentive to play as let's say Nothampton in Division 3, it adds longevity to the career mode! Cheers, Joe
November 7, 200321 yr Except of course that the Career mode only goes on for 5 years, so there goes the longevity!
December 26, 200321 yr After all the hype, i went out and bought PES3 last week. What a dissapointment. I found the controls unresponsive, gameplay poor, graphics lacking that FIFA crispness, the computer changing to players no-where near the ball every time the opposition made a pass, commentary worse than JR & The King, and piss-poor AI. Sorry but i really cant see how anyone can say that this is the best football game out there, when its not even top 5 in my view. Thank god Game have a 10 day return policy.
December 26, 200321 yr I got given Fifa 2004 as a present today. I get home, put it in, and my computer doesn't have enough memory to run it (126MB not 128MB). I've tried deleting stuff, but that doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm very pissed off at the moment.
has anyone got fifa 2004?? if yes then what do you think??
