I recently read somewhere, I think it was in The Sun so it must be true, that studies show that men playing games that they played when they they were younger enhanced their memory. Im not sure how that works because you never see elephants playing computer games. Anyway, it got me thinking back to all the games I have enjoyed playing in the past. Here are my favourites in no particular order:

Bubble bobble

Golden Axe

Streets of rage 1 and 2

sonic 1, 2 and 3

mario 64

Poy poy 1 and 2

GTA 1 and 3

ISS pro, ISS pro 98, ISS Pro evolution, ISS Pro evolution 2 (all on psone), Pro evolution 2 and 3 (playstation 2)

Anyone else care to add their favourite games ever?. Forgive me if this has been done a thousand times before.

Erm that's it :)

Final Fantasy 7 is my fav GTA : Vice City and Castlevania : Symphony of the night are good too

Agh, I'm an "old school" gamer, going back to when I played Postman Pat for the Commodore, and Monkey Island 2 came in 14...or was it 17 floppy discs. *sniff* Those were the days. To be honest I'm a huge fan of adventure games such as:

Broken Sword

The Monkey Island Series

Day of the Tentical

The Dig

Sam and Max Hit The Road

and yes, even Leisure Suit Larry.

I don't know, the games just appeal to me in some odd way. I'm also a Sonic man myself, I prefer the speedy mayhem of Sonic of the plodding jumpy plumber. Although which one of them had the better cartoon could be debated.

More modern times I loved both of the Shenmues games and Final Fantasy 9 seemed to be the only one that appealed to me in the series, call me odd if you want.

Finally, as I am a wrestling game reviewer I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Fire Pro D, a game which is no longer with me *sniff*

Leisure Suit Larry.

Damn straight. For me, it's Double Dragon, Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja, Mario & Sonic.

Leisure Suit Larry and Postman Pat both rocked the socks. As did the Dizzy series.

Treasure Island Dizzy. Underwater Dizzy. Dizzy In The Desert..aahhh...the memories...

Personally I like games which have lots of playability, and sod the graphics.

As such Elite is one of the greatest games of all time. Sensible World of Soccer (Amiga) was also brilliant, and I think still kicks the arse of any complicated FIFA game with stupid photos of player's faces and 12 button controlls. SWOS had one button - tap to pass, hold down to shoot. You could put bend on the ball, do diving headers and overhead kicks, and the players were like 1cm high!

You could do corner routines with flick-ons, and have someone dive in at the far post to score, or loft the ball from the halfway line on the wing to someone's head in the box.

Miles better than anything you can do on FIFA.

Other greats are:

Tie Fighter (PC)

Doom (PC)

Timesplitters 2 (PS2)

Ed

TETRIS, baby! :D

Oh, and I adore the "strategy" games

So, I love Civilisation, Sim City - as for recent games, I've been addicted to Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2 on the GBA :)

TETRIS is EVIL!! If you play it enough, everywhere you look when you're not playing it you see spaces, and start working out how the shapes will fit into them! :eek

It takes over your mind!!

I like SimCity games too, but I never have time to play them.

Championship Manager is also a classic too.

Age of Empires is pretty good too. Anyone got Age of Mythology?

Ed

Pong.

Oh Colin....SAM N' MAX 2 is released next year :D :D :D :D

SuperMarioWorld (only game I've ever "aced", as far as I can recollect)

Manic Miner (When I was verrrrry young I thought it was a "one-screen" game - took me aaaaaaages to get to the 2nd level)

Yie-Ar Kung Fu on the Spectrum

Rolling Thunder on the Spectrum and Arcade machines

Rainbow Islands on the ST (and now, on MAME - yay!)

Gremlins on the Spectrum (the text adventure)

Attic Attack

Sabre Wulf

Skool Daze / Back 2 Skool

Predator on the ST

Flood on the ST (anyone know where I might be able to d/l this game on an ST emulator? You played a green blob and you had to keep out of the water.[/i])

Gods

Speedball 2!

And the first computer game I ever played: 3D Monster Maze on the ZX81! Scared the poop out of me when you'd turn around and the horribly-animated, blocky T-Rex was bearing down on my character!

So many here I forgot. Like Back 2 Skool.:D

I can't think how many hours I wasted on that one. Come to think of it.. I don't remember my 6th or 7th birthdays.. Surely I wasn't playing it all that time... was I?

Pure And Simple...

Has to be:

The Metal Gear Solid Series (PSOne/PS2)

Does that mean that the XBox version doesn't count?

How about the GB verision of MGS?

For me, it's Goldeneye (N64)

Just thinking of all the good times I had with it brings a tear to my eye...

I sometimes play it now - it's still really good - the graphics and there is so much to do.

The GTA and MGS series are my favourites.
