  1. I hope Bayley's meltdown is foreshadowing a change to her image/gimmick. She really needs to try something new. I was really into The Fiend and now I'm just confused about what happened. I thought something might have gone down behind the scenes, but surely we would've heard about it by now. Who is to blame? Eric Bischoff? Paul Heyman? Other members of the creative team? Vince?
  2. I'm rubbish at predicting match winners, but I think Sasha Banks will come out on top. Well, I hope so at least because losing to Becky Lynch will surely ruin her momentum. It's making me miss Ronda Rousey, even though I snarked about her when she was actively wresting, Rousey's matches with Lynch were entertaining.
  3. Thanks for helping me get sorted. I bought a new headset with push to talk buttons that are easy to access. I also remapped a key on my computer that I can hit to mute the mic quickly. Now, no one will subjected to my obnoxious wheezing thanks to seasonal allergies.
  4. I'm playing Overwatch on my computer for the most part. I have both wireless and wired gaming headphones, but only one allows me to mute the mic and it's really fussy. I'd be happy to buy any set of headphones that will work for this if you know of any.
  5. I like the goofiness of AEW if goofy is the word we're using. I find it charming. The promotion seems more unscripted which I enjoy. It comes across as though the wrestlers get to develop their character as they choose. At least for now.
  6. I always get stuffy this time of year and my wheezing comes through loud and clear while gaming. I hate being able to hear it myself, so I imagine it must annoy others as well. Is there anything I can do to limit my breathing noise? I've tried moving my mic around, but that hasn't made much of a difference. I've tried keeping it off, but someone usually asks a question or something where I need to respond and my headset doesn't make it easy to turn it off and on while playing. Any suggestions for how to fix this or any recommendations for a better headset that will sort this out?
  7. Are any fans here going to see NXT UK TakeOver in Cardiff on the 31st? I have to work or I'd spring for tickets which are reasonable since it's NXT. Cesaro and Samoa Joe are going to be there and had I known, I would've gotten the day off. Of course, WWE likes to throw out surprises which I suppose helps build anticipation. If you're attending the event, I'd love to hear how it went since not everything is recorded and shown.
  8. I'm sure many of us in the UK are quite familiar with bog snorkelling even if it's not something we follow or care that much about. But that got me thinking about all the odd sports that are familiar only to our area. I've been to the Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling Festival in Gloucestershire with a uni mate who used to live around there. I had a blast and it was all in good fun, but some participants actually get injured chasing that cheese wheel. It's serious business to some. What are some weird sports you've heard about from around the world?
  9. To me, a good movie is one that holds my interest from beginning to end and has a good enough storyline that I'll think about it later and will want to see it again.
  10. Almost every couple on Grey's Anatomy was wrong. Every iteration of them. Admittedly, I quit watching the programme years ago, so maybe the relationships got better. Same with Friends. All the couples were ill-suited. Veronica and Archie on Riverdale. I would have paired him with Mad Dog instead. Dexter and Deb on Dexter. That whole "incestuous" relationship was gross. Which is odd because I could handle the Lannister twins. Not sure why. I agree about Nico and Eve. I don't think Eve and Villanelle would do well as a couple either.
  11. @Chuckyy that sounds like a lot to juggle. I hope things slow down for you soon. When I tried working more than one job before, I noticed that I spent more than I was making on little conveniences like getting take-away everyday and buying disposable plates and cutlery because I hadn't the time to clean anything. Society fetishsizes work, but sometimes it can be too much. @Zack T I'm with you. If I didn't need to work, I would't.
  12. @Chuckyy Thank you for all the info! No one in my circle has heard of the practice until now. I just hope it doesn't become an accepted thing! Attending wedding events are expensive enough as is. It's baffling to me. Why not just be happy that you've found the one you want and have an affordable ceremony?
  13. The bride's mother has family in Canada. I imagine she invited them too, though I'll be surprised if they make the long trip just for this. The invitation listed both dollars and pounds. I just went with the first one listed. I also fudged on the amount on the off chance she happens across this forum and thread (sorry mate and sorry mate's cousin!) I don't think it's meant to be all you can drink either. Maybe it's free until they run out or something. At least I wasn't asked to contribute something towards the auction. My older sister, who is married and more established, wasn't so lucky. @Chuckyy I'm glad that we have an insider as I'm not sure about the customs. Am I expected to bring a gift to this Stag and Doe? I can't skip it altogether as she's a sensitive person and will be hurt. We've been mates for ages.
  14. I got an invitation through the post to attend a Stag and Doe wedding fundraiser for my mates. There's an $8 charge to get in and well, there seems to be a charge for everything at the event as the entertainment and food have separate fees for each thing. Want to play cards? There's a fee. Want to sing Karaoke? There's a fee per song. There is also going to be a silent auction and various raffles throughout the event. You need to pay if you want to dance with the bride-to-be or the groom-to-be. The beer is free, so I suppose there's that. Maybe they're pulling a Vegas and hoping free alcohol will lead drinkers to be more generous with their spare cash. I had never heard of something like this before and fond it rather audacious. Called my friend up, thinking it was a joke, but apparently it's a tradition in some Canadian provinces to host a wedding fundraiser so the happy couple aren't out of pocket you know. My mate went to her cousin's wedding in such a province and heard all about it the practice. She thought it was a brilliant idea and is trying it for herself. I know she'll feel slighted if her friends and family don't support this "night of fun." So, what do you think; is a Stag and Doe wedding fundraiser tacky or brilliant? Have you ever been to one?
  15. Mick Foley (Mankind) has written many books and he's quite talented at it. He supposedly did it on his own instead of hiring a ghostwriter like most celebs do. My favourite of his is Have A Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks. He shares many personal stories, seems incredibly genuine, and was obviously passionate about wrestling. I was born in 1989 so I wasn't around for some of the events in the story, but it's still an interesting read. Another entertaining book is NITRO: The Incredible Rise and Inevitable Collapse of Ted Turner's WCW. The WCW/WWF Monday Night Wars helped spark my love for wrestling entertainment. This book is a fascinating, inside look to that era.
  16. @ShadowEdge I'm not sure if I'm interpreting the OP correctly, but I think one possible example is the idea that vaccines cause autism. It started as a myth which, deep down, most people thought was incorrect. If vaccines caused autism, why didn't the older generations have it? Why didn't many more kids in the United States have autism? The media shared these questions since that's what people were talking about. Autism is tough to handle and no parent wants to see their child struggle, so there's got to be something or someone to blame. Vaccines were an easy villain due to the public's feelings about Big Pharma. Then it turned into a legend once doctors, celebrities, and parents started sharing their stories about how their patient/relative/child suffered a vaccine injury which resulted in autism. Those tales were often heart-wrenching and made they made for compelling television interviews. Those stories got printed in the media as well and they were attention grabbing headlines. Even though the myth that vaccines cause autism had been debunked by most reliable sources, at that point people were already pretty cloistered off with "those who believed like them." Also, news companies never say that X is a lie. They soften their language by using words like claims, alleges, supposed, been proven false, and made a false statement. By not calling a lie, a lie it helped the lies spread. Once enough sources were discussing vaccines and autism and the anti-vaxx movement got underway, they were given credibility by using faulty scientific evidence. But we've seen that it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter who is paying Dr. Y off to say what you want him to say. It doesn't matter who funded the study. It doesn't matter that the case studies were done incorrectly. It doesn't matter that the results aren't reproducible. Once enough people say it and want to believe it, enough sources print, and enough people share it on social media, it becomes fact. They've used that information in order to lobby politicians to create laws given them vaccine exemptions and forcing insurance to cover alternative doctors and alternative medicine and so on. That too lends credibility to their cause. And these anti-vaxxers have continued to be given a platform because we all want to appear open-minded and part of that means including "both sides" of the argument no matter how ridiculous it is. This idea of fairness has been manipulated beyond belief and it's honestly part of the problem. Boy I did not mean to write so much. I will die laughing if the OP was talking about something else entirely.
  17. Right? It's such a lazy way out too. Although it's true that life isn't always fair, it's also true that there are workarounds to many problems. You might even be able to talk your way through it if the other party would just listen for a bit. I understand the aggravation. You can always share here you know. I've gotten some great advice from forum members and I felt heard.
  18. I thought the trailer was dreadful, but the film really was decent. Will Smith was funny, not on the same level as Robin Williams, but funny in his own way. The children seemed delighted with Smith's version of Genie.
  19. Well, did you survive @ShadowEdge and did your mum appreciate her prezzie? I think you all celebrated the holiday today in the U.S. I hope it went as well as possible for you.
  20. @Chuckyy The Blair Witch Project got me too. The actual film had very little in common with all that hype. Of course and more often than not. That's why the terrible ones stand out to me. The Suicide Squad is another great example of an awesome trailer for a disappointing film. Some trailers seem like they were cut for an entirely different film all together. It's false advertising! The reverse is also true as I've seen some fantastic films where the trailer didn't do it justice. For instance, the film Bridge to Tarabitha closely followed the book while the trailer made it appear as though it missed key points and was more fluff than substance. @Zack T have you seen Paul Blart: Mall Cop? I didn't expect to like it, but I thought it was hilarious.
  21. @Zack T, was the film funny at all or no? I'm not that into Will Ferrell's brand of slapstick comedy, but the film looked hilarious in its previews. I guess that's the point, though.
  22. That was just my dry British humour, Zack T. :) It's a shame to call up the popular NXT duo then turn around and make a bad creative decision like this. When I first heard the name change I instantly thought, "oh, no!" followed by "that would make a great Instagram parody account." It really is a terrible and unnecessary name change. I don't know anyone who likes it.
  23. What have been some of the most memorable wrestling names and gimmicks that you've enjoyed over the years? Many have stood out to me, but to narrow it down my top three are: 1. The Undertaker - he can always sell it! Always! Impeccable mic work and the best off-the-cuff work I've seen. The Undertaker is talented. 2. Fin's Demon King - the most creative gimmick in the modern era. I think it's brilliant that the Demon King only comes out every once in a while. 3. The Viking Experience Raiders - Well, they should have kept "experience." Just think of the Instagram possibilities.
  24. What if her mum wants her to hang it? I bet you didn't think about that. I only did because my mum can't hang things straight and always needs help with it. She's sweet as can be so I don't mind though. @ShadowEdge I think you should get her a nice necklace and earring set. A ring, watch, bracelet or something like that will have to fit and thus, could be a headache if you have to return it for her. A physical gift card would work too. I usually just spend a few pounds on flowers. I think the nicest I've done for mum was to take her for afternoon tea.
  25. Film trailers are cut to persuade people to spend money to see it and to garner press attention. It basically shows some of the films most compelling scenes. It isn't meant to give everything away, but you still expect it to be a reasonable representation of the film you're about to see. Well, I don't think Hellboy got the memo. The trailer made the film appear wickedly funny and action-packed, but in reality it was anything but. Thank goodness the film had easily recognizable characters or I would have thought I was at the wrong cinema. Which films do think failed to live up to their over-hyped trailers?
