  1. Without Wings - Corrosion of Conformity - An acoustic guitar instrumental...my main problem with this style of music is the noise of the guitar pick (I think that's what it's called?) or whatever it is that makes a squeaky sound between each note, and it distracts me immensely. I'm fine with acoustic guitar stuff when it's combined with other things, but by itself I'm not a big fan of it. Still, this one gets extra points for the violin. 4/10. Check the Meaning - Richard Ashcroft - Something about this sounds oddly familiar, which is weird because I know for a fact that I've never heard it before. Anyway, the music is fine, if I was reviewing this even a year ago I would probably have dismissed it entirely, but I can appreciate it now. As for the lyrics, not a huge fan, but they don't annoy me or anything. I would have liked this far more as an instrumental track I think. It is a bit long though. 5/10. The Supersuckers - Dead Meat - Not sure on this one. I didn't hate it, but it really didn't do anything for me music wise or lyrics wise. Not a fan of this one, sorry. 3/10. Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son - Can't say I'm a fan of this. The music didn't do anything for me, and I can't say I'm a fan of the vocals either. Plus it feels overlong, I had honestly had enough of it at around the 4-minute mark. Didn't really like this. 2/10. Best Coast - Boyfriend - The lyrics of this annoyed me almost immediately. "I WISH HE WAS MY BOOOOOOYYYYYYFRIEEEENDDDD!!!!" Blargh. The music didn't annoy me, but the lyrics did....a lot. 1/10. Propellerheads - On Her Majesty's Secret Service - I actually quite liked this, it could have been shorter though, or maybe even split into two separate songs. I like how instead of repeating itself for 9 minutes, it changes constantly while maintaining its original form, at least for the most part. The last few minutes weren't as good as the first 6 though. I can't really say much more than that. 5/10. Allegaeon - The Ballad Ov Pluto - Does this even count as a song? :lol How can I possibly rate this? Far too short. ?/10. Ministry - So What (Live) - Not bad, could have been shorter though. The big gaps between verses didn't help, that combined with the length makes it sound more repetitive. Still, it's okay. 5/10. Violent Delight - I Wish I Was A Girl - What the hell was that?!? 7/10. Suede - Stay Together - Voice sounds like blargh. Blargh I say! Music does nothing for me at all, voice is blargh. Plus it's too long for what it is. 1/10.
  2. I don't think South Park is overrated at all. Sometimes they cross the line (as do Family Guy), but overall it's hilarious. As for the people saying that the early seasons don't hold up, I disagree with that too. Chinpokomon is still one of my favourite episodes, for example. That being said, Butters is pretty much my favourite character from the show, and he wasn't really in the early seasons....I'm rambling now, South Park is overall great, that's that.
  3. Which one? I'm curious, as I never judge anyone's talent based on only one song (at least if I think they sound bad on said song, if they sound good to me then that's different). Even if I hear a rapper who I think sounds totally horrible in every way, I always seek out other stuff they've done to see whether they are actually bad or whether it's just the one song. As I said before, if stuff like that gets so much hate, then I have no hope when it comes to making my own music.
  4. This is probably the best post in this thread. Just a few points though, horrorcore as a genre most certainly exists, but like you said, it can be controversial as to what counts as horrorcore and what doesn't. Especially when some rappers, (Tyler the Creator in particular), have a style which fits every definition of horrorcore, but they continually claim that they aren't doing horrorcore. And while there are plenty of horrorcore songs that are 'intentionally silly in a fun way', that is only one form of horrorcore rap, as horrorcore rap has its own subgenres. These subgenres include Devil Shyt, Juggalo Rap, Acid Rap, Death Rap, Gore Rap/Snuff Porn Gore Rap, Comedy Horrorcore Rap, and many more even smaller subgenres such as Goth Rap. All of these styles are horrorcore, but they are very different, and the definition of horrorcore as a style is far more complicated because of this. Who said I didn't respect your opinion? That's not what any of this is about. All I did was remark that I didn't expect such a negative response to the song, and as usual with this forum, the whole thing blew up out of proportion. All I thought was that calling it the 'worst song ever' was a bit harsh. And insulting my intelligence? Stay classy Omega.....
  5. Good god....this is the deathmatch wrestling discussion all over again... Well that's a complete load of crap for a start. I've expanded my musical tastes since those days, you act as if I only listen to horrorcore rap..... I'm not 'wound up' over the negative reviews, I don't care what you rate them. I just don't get some of the generalisations and false nonsense said in this thread.
  6. Are you listening to it through a potato or something? If anything, the chorus vocals could be louder, and the vocals of all the verses are mixed to the same audio level. So I should ignore all the critics, fans, other rappers, and general consensus that consider The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, and to a lesser extent some of Relapse and Marshal Mathers LP 2 as Horrorcore? If those works of Eminem don't count as Horrorcore, than neither does Insane Clown Posse, Tech N9ne, later era Vanilla Ice, and countless others, all of which are considered by many to be 'horrorcore'. Eminem's work that is considered horrorcore fits within the mini-subgenre of horrorcore that is basically 'over the top lyrics with violence and exaggerated situations'. But those two painting prove my point entirely, different styles don't equal inherently bad..... EDIT - Oh and to Boyo, I forgot, Eminem's work with D12 is also considered horrorcore. EDIT 2 - And Boyo, to prove my point that Eminem counts as horrorcore, is this evidence: [video=youtube;XpTf2avGTJs]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpTf2avGTJs [video=youtube;v9Y-CSQor5s]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9Y-CSQor5s And that's only two examples, both of which easily fit into the horrorcore genre.
  7. But that is exactly what I was talking about before. The Room can be seen as objectively bad, because the general opinion is that Tommy Wiseau has no idea what the hell he's doing when it comes to making a movie. And even if he did, it wouldn't matter, as The Room is full of mistakes and nonsensical nonsense. The Steezy Ant song has nothing wrong with it in regards to production and execution. Comparing it to the Eminem song isn't what I was trying to do, as comparing it to that is like comparing a low budget independent film or a direct to TV/DVD film to a big blockbuster cinema film, of course the quality is going to be different.....but just because it's different, it doesn't make it inherently bad. EDIT - To put it another way, if the majority of people give something positive reviews, does that mean that it's objectively bad? The Room has a majority of negative reviews, the likes/comments on Steezy Ant's music are majority positive.... EDIT 2 - And besides, he's only one of the people on the track, there are 13 others......
  8. I see you took that off Wikipedia. Two can play that game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Name_Is Look at the following on that page: Genre: Horrorcore Categories: Horrorcore songs Now, for more proof. From Eminem.net: The song he charted with? My Name Is. Besides that, look at the lyrics from the song. There are countless Horrorcore songs with the same style, which is both over-the-top and tongue in cheek. And the definition of Horrorcore is much more complicated than that anyway, as there are countless mini-subgenres of Horrorcore which all sound very different from each other.
  9. But that's totally subjective. Look at all the games and films that are considered the worst ever, they are all filled with errors and mistakes and other stuff that would suggest that at least some of the people involved didn't know what they were doing. Besides that, everybody, no matter how talented, has made something bad at one time or another. That's not what I'm talking about though, I'm talking about the whole generalisation and attack of a whole genre of music and attack on the musicians involved based on only a few songs. I don't pass judgment on peoples talent based on one song, and I get annoyed when other people do, just because everybody here seems to hate the Steezy Ant song I posted, it doesn't mean that he or the 13 other rappers involved are suddenly talentless hacks. Hell, even with music genres I hate I don't attack the people who made them or the people who like them. My negative reviews in the music club in the past have all been for stuff I couldn't stand listening to, but I don't attack it, and I certainly don't write it off as objectively bad just because it's not for me. I'm not cherry picking anything. My Name Is counts as Horrorcore. As I said before, there are so many types of Horrorcore rap out there, with mini-subgenres, that it covers a huge variety of styles and artists. Whether it's mainstream or not doesn't mean a thing.
  10. And that bolded line completely sums up the problem I have with everything you're saying. It's objectively wrong. You can objectively say that the other two songs I posted as examples are lacking quality, as both are rapped off-beat and have poor audio mixing. You can't say that the Steezy Ant song is objectively bad when it is professionally produced, mixed, mastered, rapped on beat by professional rappers, and easily had a lot more work put into it than the two amateurish examples I posted. It's the same argument you can have with any 'hated' music in general, you can subjectively find it terrible, but you can't say it lacks quality when it's made by professional music producers who know what they're doing. And as for the lyrics all sounding the same, that's complete nonsense. I could, again, provide tons of examples of horrorcore rap songs which sound absolutely nothing alike lyrically. And to end, this is exactly why I haven't bothered releasing any of my new music. It may be a vast improvement on everything else I've recorded, and it may be the first stuff I've made with zero vocal manipulation, but when professional rappers are attacked as having 'zero quality', what hope do I have? EDIT - Oh, and I forgot - as far as horrorcore as a genre is concerned, there was a time when it was on top of the music charts. These two albums in particular. Perhaps you've heard of them.....: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/35/Eminem_-_The_Slim_Shady_LP_CD_cover.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/69/The_Marshall_Mathers_LP_second_cover.jpg
  11. Here you go [video=youtube;np8hx9o5qk0] [video=youtube;ZnZpFvPhUo0] And I have far more examples than that, but I don't want to fill the thread with them. And the craziest thing? The Prophet Phantomz actually have a record deal, despite the fact that every song I've heard from them has sounded amateur and rapped off-beat. Well this post is all kinds of wrong, regardless of whether you like the song or not. I'll just say this, in regards to the parts I've bolded: 1. You say they can't rap? Based on one song? Okay then... 2. You say that it's bland....I specifically chose this song because I personally thought that it wasn't bland. It's an odd mishmash of rappers with differing styles, a few German rappers and a unique beat, which brings me to my next point... 3. The beat was produced by Da Evilist, who is a veteran on the underground horrorcore scene as both a producer and a rapper, and he sells his beats. There certainly isn't any free stock beat stuff here. 4. The end statement is a complete generalisation, especially when looking at this very song. Not only do none of the rappers on the song mumble (hell, the German rappers do the whole guttural growl thing), but every rapper has a different and distinct style. Not only that, but only about 3 or 4 rappers on the song, out of 14 total use the vocal changing stuff.
  12. You people are insane. I didn't expect much positive scoring for the Steezy Ant track, but this is ridiculous. Some of those guys are veteran rappers on the underground horrorcore scene, and almost all of them are considered really good rappers by not only myself, but loads of other people. And to answer you Omega, yes, at least half of those guys (possibly all of them) make money from their music, even if it is only a little bit since they are all independent artists and not on major labels. It wouldn't bother me if people just didn't like the song, but two reviews in a row calling it the 'worst thing ever'? I could easily show you something 100 times worse with thousands more fans, and they also make money from their music.....I don't get anything anymore. :?
  13. My turn first? Weird.....anyway, I had a bit of trouble choosing my first song, as every short song I had in mind was between 2:35 and 2:50 long, and since I couldn't make up my mind, I've decided to play it safe with my first choice and choose a classic Wu-Tang track: [video=youtube;sLGklJX4Ly8] And for my long song choice is another evil creepy underground rap posse track: [video=youtube;pAteCeU6tpk] Language Warning on both of those by the way. That was years ago.....why do people never forget. :doh32:
  14. I wasn't in the last one, but can I be in this one?
  15. As a big fan of Let's Plays, I see nothing wrong with it. I'll leave it at that.
  16. I'm in shock at this.....R.I.P. :(
  17. I've been listening to various random stuff on YouTube, and I have another question to ask....why is it that on just about every YouTube video I stumble across, there are people arguing in the comments that the various subgenres of metal 'aren't music'? And a lot of the people who defend it as music go on to attack other forms of music? And that some of the people who claim it isn't music also claim that it's 'emo teenager music'? Or is all of that just general YouTube comment stupidity that I should ignore?
  18. Um, no. I've never once trolled anybody anywhere on the internet. If this is what I get for posting my honest feelings, I may as well just stop posting altogether. Completely unnecessary. I don't go into your threads calling them dumb.
  19. Thanks for all the help. :) What weirded me out about it mostly is that a lot of non-rap stuff just sounds like noise to me, and for reasons that I can't explain, I can now suddenly hear the actual musical composition in this type of music. It's like a switch flipped in my brain or something. And I think the reason that it appeals to me is the frantic fast-pace mixed with the growly vocals. I mean, I find ordinary singing, pop music, opera, country etc annoying and I always have, and a lot of the music club stuff people post is far too slow paced for me, and it just ends up annoying me (not to mention the fact that the vocal styles annoy me in those too). Also, it could be the fact that I've been listening to a lot of growly rappers recently, that Cerebral Bore song (which I enjoyed by the way) had growls which reminded me of the growls Bushpig does in his raps. On a sidenote, I did a bit of research and Cannibal Corpse seem to have a history of controversy due to their lyrics. Why exactly? The growly vocal style isn't exactly clear, and the lyrics are nowhere near as bad as the most graphic rap I've heard (and I'd post a song proving that point, but I don't want to be banned :lol) I find it strange.
  20. I'm scared...why you may ask? Well, I think the majority of people on these forums realise that I've got a bias towards any music that isn't rap/hip hop, and that I've been listening to rap exclusively since I was about 10 years old (with the only exceptions being Disturbed's first two albums, Korn's Follow the Leader album and Limp Bizkit before they became unpopular, although Limp Bizkit's vocals are mostly rap anyway. Oh, and Linkin Parks Hybrid Theory was pretty good). Well, being the morbidly curious person that I am, I remembered someone mentioning Cannibal Corpse in the music club thread, and fully expecting to hate it, I checked it out to satisfy my curiosity. The scary thing is....I like what I heard. This goes against 15 years of musical taste, and it scares me immensely. So yeah, I don't know what to do about it. :? :(
  21. from http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/WWE_Signs_Independent_Wrestler_Paul_Bearer_s_WWE_Hall_of_Fame_Video_Friday_s_SmackDown.html Well that's both very surprising but not totally unexpected.
  22. A bunch of obscure lucha libre craziness...why? I don't know... http://i59.tinypic.com/2elwc93.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/1hwolu.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/6nw5zc.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/18d6w4.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/mugy3a.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/1znbvkm.jpg http://i57.tinypic.com/2evghoj.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/5ajdhg.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/281vg2f.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/runqq8.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/2q1tnvt.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/eal3ky.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/2qn1oit.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/2s1ul1j.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/oj1lib.jpg http://i58.tinypic.com/2j5f0n5.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/a497dc.jpg
  23. Skinny Puppy - illisiT - Too noisy for me. Seriously, I had to listen to this with the sound very low, it was hurting my ears. As said, the music itself was too noisy for me, as for the vocals, they don't do much at all for me. Sorry, I can't find much else to say about this. 3/10, it would be a 1/10, but the music video was kind of interesting. Carcass - 316L Grade Surgical Steel - Hard to rate this. I actually don't mind the voice, but I can't decide on whether it's trying too hard to be growly without being fully growly, or not being growly enough. :lol It goes on a bit too long, and the music sounds like something else I've heard. As I said, it's hard to rate this, it didn't annoy me or anything, but it didn't do a whole lot for me either. 4.5/10, I guess.
  24. Fair enough. It just makes me feel weird whenever people younger than I am say that they feel old and stuff like that. :)
  25. And with that finally done, I did have a couple of things to say, to continue from last night, which I'll post in this separate post so that the review post isn't screwed up. Um, how old are you? Because according to your profile you're younger than I am..... I could say the exact same thing for the majority of stuff posted in the music club, as well as popular music artists in general. Fair enough. It's not for everyone. :) It does make me fell a bit weird though, since the most brutally violent group in the world is a rap group.
