Nic dont worry about it. I was in the same boat when i left college with a couple of computer qualifications. Took me a while to find my first job. Don't waste your time with connexions but do remember one thing ; never give up.

Bar work is fairly easy to get employed for. Go into any pub you find and just ask them if they have work going. Hand in a CV and be persistant. If there are any bars and clubs around, start cleaning up glasses or something. I know plenty of people who did that at my local, and the bosses saw their commitment and eventually hired them full time to help out, plus they were then more willing to train them to do better jobs like pouring pints, etc, when usually they ask for experience if they're just hiring people from outside.

Don't be afraid to ask behind counters either. Not just "do you have any application forms?" but simply "do you have work going?". Again, be persistant. As DC said, phone calls are a good way to go.

Don't be afraid to rape the Job Centre Plus website too. Plenty of jobs get advertised on there.

I've done all this, and nothing comes good. I'm even bar trained, and yet people are not interested in me. I've made mates with the bar staff in an aim to get in a job to no avail.

I've got to talk about this somewhere, because it's actually making me feel depressed.

I finished college for good on the 27th of this month, and even before this I've handed in numerous application forms for different jobs. Mainly the jobs have been bar work and shop assistant roles.

I've received no phonecalls, been offered no interviews and basically had no correspondance from anyone.

Could it be the fact that I have a few too many qualifications? I have tried leaving grades off, but that still seems to put people off me.

I've got 9 GCSES' (5 A's, 4B's) a Young Enterprise qualification, 1 AS level and 4 a levels pending.

I don't like to lie on forms about my grades, because I don't want to have to admit to somebody in an interview that I actually have got qualifications.

I rang the dole office the other day to start a claim, and I felt absolutely humiliated by the fact I can't get work. I've got a meeting with somebody on Tuesday about it all, but I'm just worried they are going to say that I need to apply for jobs which need more skills, which is something I don't want to do. I only want a simple part time job like the rest of my mates.

I know they are going to try and palm me off to connexions, which is a service I hate because of its condenscending attitude. They rang up for my sister last week, as she was a trainee hairdresser when she left school, but had to leave hairdressing for ill health. When I said she was now working as a waitress, they said it was sad that she had to do that now. I really don't want that sort of attitude thrown towards me, because I'll end up giving them a piece of my mind.

My mates are all threatening to disown me because I've got to go on the dole, yet I'm trying really hard to get a job. I'm going to have a chat with a local cafe owner on monday which J's nan set up, but I'm not sure that she'll want me, and it'll probably end up with my name and number being taken, and eventually being chucked in the bin.

Depressed :(

Been there certainly. As cliched as it sounds, you need to keep a positive attitude. As long as you keep putting yourself outthere, and get your cv on the right websites, you WILL get a job. Oh, and if your mates disown you for being on the dole, they arent really your friends.

If you must, go to work tomorrow. Well, if I were you, I wouldn't bother. For there are brighter sides to life and I should know because I've seen them, but not very often.

GOD ABOVE!!!!!!!!!! Dont work in a call center unless you have 100% control of your temper and dont mind getting abuse down the phone. I dealt with one call while a manager listened in, I thought I dealt with it quite well, but afterwards I said I get worried and nervous with people sat listening to me....she said she could tell as she wouldnt expect anyone to be like that normally with a customer.......I normally give the rat ******* ones as much grief as they give me. :(

.

Uh oh, Im waiting to get word on whether or not I have got a job in a call center I applied for a few weeks back. But to say that it would be better than the job im on now would be true.

Call centres are good places to work, mainly because the job itself isn't that hard. They are more tiring (mentally and physically) than you'd think, but you can get not too bad money for a job that can be boiled down to sitting on your arse, playing on a computer and talking on the phone.

It is a little more complex than that, but the job itself, if nothing else, will tide you over until you get something else.

I've changed my mind about getting a summer job. At first I thought I wanted a break, then I didn't then did then didn't and so on. I've reasoned with myself though, I have all of July to kick back, then come August i'm going to work and build up some money. They're also looking for people to carry on at weekends come fall, which is great for me! I might not be earning as much as my mates (assuming I get the job, of course), but at least id be earning.

So yeah, looks like I might be getting a job. The woman who is manager seems very nice and friendly, so i'll just turn on the old charm and hopefully I'll get the job. :)

    • When the Carolina Panthers signed Andy Dalton earlier this offseason, they had their soon-to-be No. 1 overall pick in mind. Why not roster a 12-year veteran and three-time Pro Bowler to consult with your rookie quarterback? But what the Panthers might not have known is that Dalton also has some chops as a fashion consultant. Dalton, Bryce Young and Matt Corral looked a bit different—perhaps slimmer depending on who you ask—when they hit the practice field on Monday. Instead of donning the usual red practice jerseys, the trio began the latest installment of organized team activities in black—a change inspired by the 35-year-old passer. Corral was really loving the switch. Here were his thoughts, courtesy of Panthers.com’s Darin Gantt: Gantt also got a few words from the fashion icon himself: It’s not as powerful as “Keep Pounding,” but perhaps the Panthers can look good, feel good and play good into the 2023 campaign. • The NFC South returned to its 2014 form this past season. (For those who aren’t exactly acquainted with the “NFSW South,” yeah, it’s not good.) An 8-9 record, one mustered up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was good enough to take the division’s 2022 crown. Behind them were the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons—all of whom finished at 7-10. So, will this year be different? Join us in our Wire Network roundtable—featuring managing editors Matt Urben (Falcons Wire), John Sigler (Saints Wire) and River Wells (Bucs Wire)—as we set our realistic expectations for each team in 2023. • Russell Okung may have never been called “fast” during his 11-year NFL career. But now, he’s embraced a different kind of fast in finding life after football. Almost two months ago—on Easter Sunday, to be exact—the former Carolina Panthers offensive lineman tweeted out a picture displaying the fruits of his dramatic body transformation. Once 330 pounds, a slender Okung looked precisely how the caption of the post read—”Reborn.” So, how did he do it? On Monday night, the 34-year-old answered that question: Okung added the following in a series of additional tweets: The 2010 sixth overall pick and two-time Pro Bowler played his final professional season with the Panthers in 2020. So, by our and Okung’s calculations, that was about three years and over 100 pounds ago. • The Dallas Cowboys started their week by bringing in seven players for a look—and among them was a former Carolina Panthers quarterback. Jacob Eason worked out for “America’s Team” on Monday. The 25-year-old passer was released by the Panthers back on May 18. Eason cracked into the pros as a fourth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2020. He appeared in his first NFL game in Week 2 of the 2021 campaign—when he completed two of his five passes for 25 yards and a pick against the Los Angeles Rams. After being waived by the Colts later that season, and then by the Seattle Seahawks in the summer of 2022, Eason landed in Carolina at the start of last season. In what would be his lone outing for the Panthers, the 6-foot-6, 231-pounder mopped up to finish off the Week 6 loss to the Rams (again)—where he threw for 59 yards and an interception. • Should the Carolina Panthers play it out with CJ Henderson in 2023 or pass him on to the next spot before the summer is over? Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks they should be of the latter thought, opining that a split with the 24-year-old cornerback may be best for both sides. Henderson was acquired by the Panthers in a 2021 swap with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who made the University of Florida product the ninth overall pick just a year earlier. Carolina parted ways with tight end Dan Arnold and a 2022 third-round pick for the defender and a 2022 fifth-rounder. Similarly to his brief time in Jacksonville, Henderson has not been able to stick on in Charlotte—having struggled over much of his 27-game stint for his new squad. His roughest outing, perhaps, came in what was essentially the NFC South title game this past season—when he was a prominent part of the coverage that allowed 207 yards and three touchdowns to Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans. The Panthers declined Henderson’s fifth-year option back on May 1.
