  1. This probably sounds silly, but Old Yeller taught me the importance of getting my pets vaccinated. I still think of that poor dog and boy each time I consider putting the vet visit off.
  2. I come from a family of hardcore Catholics. Thankfully, they're also mostly liberal, so it's sort of okay to not be Catholic later in life, but it'll hurt a lot of feelings. The faithful family members will pray for that relative over and over and over. They'll also sneak in random crucifixes and hide them throughout that person's home "just in case." It's nothing too drastic, but there's definitely some pull to stick with tradition.
  3. Ah, but I didn't specify which world is "the world." Could you give the thread an upgrade of 7/10 then? I'd request 10/10, but I don't want to seem smug.
  4. People love scandal, titillation, and drama so the makings are there for another good movie. Do you have a certain singer or band in mind that you think would be great inspiration for this? I'd like to see a Fleetwood Mac movie.
  5. @Evelyn I saw that one of the top execs said that none of the usual cast will be in the new series. That means no Jon Snow. I'm not ready to let him go.
  6. You guys have been so helpful! It turns out that I'm just a bad listener because my cousin does vent to me except I didn't take it that way because she's not very expressive. And, I've been doing the complete wrong things which is telling her how to solve her problems or just doing it for her when really she just wants someone to listen. Some chores can't be ignored like bills, garbage, and pet care so I'm still shepherding those along. I've gotten better about "compassionate listening" though. I'm just thankful to have a starting point. I really appreciate you all for that!
  7. Reality television shows and those with reenacted dramatic scenes usually fit the bill. Untold Stories of the ER can't be beat. Some of the doctors and nurses really get into the reenactment. It's something else.
  8. Well, I thought the goal was to build as nice a place as you could, price things well, and earn as much money as possible so you could continue upgrading and expanding your zoo, amusement park, or farm. In that sense, the games are similar. I could be totally wrong though. Do you have any theories as to what ended Tycoon's popularity?
  9. I can't believe you took the time to type all that out to help a faceless stranger. That's unbelievably kind of you! It's my cousin who has depression. We've also been very close, even as adults. We live down the street from each other. She's always had depression, but it doesn't manifest like yours. She doesn't vent. She's introverted and quiet - even on a good day. When her depression is really bad, she'll sit in the darkness and won't eat. She doesn't watch television or anything. Just gets in bed, stays wide awake, then goes to work the next day. She literally just lays and cries. When I ask why she just says she's sad. I prod for reasons why, but she doesn't know. I can't figure out the catalyst that causes everything to go into a tailspin for her. She went to therapy when we were kids, but our family didn't know there were different kinds of therapists. Her's just asked questions. I guess like the Socratic method or something. The therapist didn't offer solutions or give her exercises to do at home or anything. She's tried medicine as well, three different kinds actually, and each one made her feel worse. She's a lovely person who would never wish harm on anyone. She claims she's never been happy, but I'm not sure about that. I guess I believe her, but she's not been this bad for years. I think I would be more naturally helpful to someone like you. I can work with venting and negative self-talk. I have no idea how to fix silence and tears. If I don't know where her mind is at, how can I help?
  10. I think some players who liked the genre switched over to those played on Facebook's platform like Farmville. Facebook was becoming more popular at the time, so why not kill two birds with one stone and invite your friends to play? I'm just guessing. I never got into time management/simulation games. They felt like busy work to me.
  11. It's heartbreaking to watch a loved one or friend deal with lifelong depression. I know they're in pain and I desperately wish I could fix things, but I think my suggestions are probably more of an annoyance than a help. Still, I don't want to do nothing while someone I care about is struggling. How can I best help someone with depression?

    Battlefield V

I bought it to play on my XBox and I've enjoyed it. It isn't radically different, but that's one of the things I like about it. I've heard a few complaints about the female soldiers and how it destroys history or whatever, but I think those individuals just don't realize that women have always been on the front lines and not calling them infantry soldiers back then doesn't make it any less true. Plus, the soldiers didn't have robotic arms and other technologies, then either, but fans aren't upset about them appearing in the game. Games are fantasy anyway.
  13. I've been struck by wanderlust. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you do? I'd probably head to Australia or Canada. I'd like to check out the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and explore the region. Another place I'd love to visit is Manitoba during the polar bear migration season. Hopefully I could see the northern lights while there.
  14. I'm looking forward to the start of season two. They left off in bed together and I can't imagine where they're going from here. Eve stabbed her, now what?
  15. Same here! The original Nintendo was the console of choice in my heyday but I loved playing Galaxian at the arcade. I blew through so many quarters just trying to get to the next level. They've released versions that are compatible with PS4, but it doesn't feel the same to me.
  16. Which shows are you obsessed with watching right now? Doesn't matter whether you're binging away on an older show or tunning in every week to a current show. Cable, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, anything goes.
  17. I miss Dunkaroos a whole lot. I had a stockpile of them, but I finished them up a year ago. The Walmart knockoff, Dunk 'N' Crunch, isn't as good. I also miss the original Lunchables Deluxe which came with two different kinds of meat, cheese, and crackers in each package. It also came with an Andes chocolate mint and a packet of fancy mustard. I was the classiest kid in the elementary school with those in my lunch box. Which discontinued food items do you miss?
  18. The harsh lighting in stores makes everyone look bad, so I wouldn't sweat it. I don't mind getting older and looking older myself, but I've had those moments when it hit me. It's especially jarring when I'm around my friends with their kids.
  19. I take the lazy way out. I leave the lights and ornaments on the tree, then gently carry it to the basement and cover it up to keep the dust off. All it needs the next year is a little bit of fluffing up.
  20. @Maya, Black Swan was excellent and I didn't expect that ending at all! Natalie Portman looked so elegant. This past weekend I watched Shutter Island - twice, because the plot twist threw me - and it was also very good! I remember that the movie got bad reviews when it premiered, but I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the excellent picks. @Zack T, I loved the first season of The Following but felt it fizzled after that. Not even my adoration of Kevin Bacon could make up for the plot holes and bumbling "good guys". @BamBamsGurlMoo I was looking forward to seeing it, but thought the show was shelved indefinitely after the Parkland shooting. I'll have to check it out. The movie was a cult-classic and I'm excited to see a modern take on high school angst.
  21. I'm going to stop watching as it's giving me nightmares. It's just getting too sick and the breaking point was seeing those trussed up women in David's basement. Poor Jane. She got him in the end, but now she has to live with it and I don't see her character as a sociopath who won't feel guilt.
  22. I'm not into Halloween now, but it's harmless fun and I loved it when I was young. I hand out goody bags with candy, stickers, pencils, and erasers on Halloween night. We get very few trick-or-treaters. Maybe 10-20 mini monsters stop by our door. I have a pumpkin ready to carve when it gets closer to Halloween. I bet your house will look positively spooky once you're finished decorating, @HighlyLogical.
  23. The title to episode nine is ominous - "I Will Participate". So, maybe Jenna ends up killing Rick and running off with Lila. Do we know if there's going to be a season two?
  24. I've wondered that myself, @Poppy, as this section doesn't get many replies. I watch MMA and UFC matches and also follow some of the fighters on social media.
  25. I still don't know what to make of Jane. She was an idiot for confessing to her boss, especially since she had a good reason for wanting him gone. David had already shown her that he's a bad man who thinks of women as objects. I can't get into her head to understand her reasoning. Her mother's complicity with "the game" while Jane was growing up doesn't excuse her idiocy. Then again, she made Anya snap to, so there is that. The whole thing with Ross was so creepy - “In this country, you can’t make your neighbor move, but you can Purge.” Do you think Rick and Lila will end up killing Jenna? Rick would be killing his own unborn child, so I'm leaning towards no, but something is about to happen there.
