DC 536
Exclusive: Edgar Wright Talks Ant Man And he's working with Simon Pegg again 10 March 2008 Despite grabbing gold at the Sony Ericsson Empire Awards, Hot Fuzz helmer Edgar Wright clearly isn’t ready to rest on his laurels just yet. He’s ready to roll on a number of projects starting off with an adaptation of minuscule superhero Ant Man. He’s been attached to the big-screen version of Marvel's tiny comic book superhero - a character who can communicate with insects - for a while and the time, it seems, has come for the little man to make his move towards the big screen. “It’s written and we’re doing a second draft of it,” said Wright. “It’s going to be less overtly comedic than anything else I’ve ever done. It’s more of a full-on action adventure sci-fi film but with a comedic element – in the same spirit of a lot of escapist fare like that. It’s certainly not a superhero spoof or pastiche and it certainly isn’t a sort of Honey I Shrunk The Kids endeavour at all.” He’s not got anybody in mind to play comicdom’s tiniest hero just yet, so the big question at the moment is what incarnation will the hero take - the goody-two-shoes scientist Hank Pym originated by comic legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby or Ant Man mark-II, the more roguish Scott Lang? “Ah well, it could be Scott Lang, it could be Hank Pym, it could be both – okay it is both, now there’s an exclusive for you.” While Wright puts the finishing touches to his script with co-writer Joe Cornish, he’s got some other projects on the boil, including another collaboration with Simon Pegg. Could this be the final part of his so-called Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy? “That’s one of the things that we’re going to do with Working Title who we’ve just signed a two-picture deal with,” he said. “It will have comedy and a cross-genre in a similar way. So how will it compare to Hot Fuzz and Shaun Of The Dead? “Well, it’ll be a trilogy in tone but I can’t say any more than that. If you announce what the subject matter is, it can still be 18 months off and by that point everybody would be sick of it.” Clearly playing his cards close to his chest, we guess we’ll have to wait and see how it’ll all pan out. What do you reckon to the Brist director’s latest revelations? Does he have the Wright stuff? Have your say below... Glen FerrisCredit: http://www.empireonline.com I'm hoping that if both incarnations of Ant Man are in the movie, maybe Pym will become Giant Man too. DC 536
I knew there was a thread about the upcoming Ant-Man movie, but I sure as hell didn't think it would be from nearly six years ago. Anyway, to follow on from the news that Paul Rudd is going to be Ant-Man, it's been revealed today that he will be the Scott Lang version as they've also cast Hank Pym in the form of Michael Douglas. Empire has the story.

DC 536
Edgar Wright has left the production due to creative differences with the studio. According to Empire, the split is amicable and mutual (with a new director already in place). This is concerning due to the fact Edgar Wright has been trying to get this off the ground since 2006 (which was 2yrs before the first Iron Man movie) and finally started pre-production late last year. Filming hadn't started yet, so that is something, but for Wright to walk away from something that was a pet project of his for eight years means something has gone badly wrong. Guest The Beltster
I must admit, this isn't one I'm even remotely looking forward to. I've never been a fan of the character, if it wasn't so tied in with Ultron I'd specifically go out of my way to avoid it.
Maxximus 353
Ant Man sucks. The only time I liked him was the time he lost it and punched is old lady Wasp in the face. I can laugh at violence against women in comic books. It doesn't make me a monster. http://i.imgur.com/EYBjZAT.jpg SHADDAP! WHACK! :lol
Guest John Hancock
Isn't that Yellowjacket? I know they're technically the same person, but still, I don't think even that counts as enjoying Ant Man.
Maxximus 353
It is Yellow Jacket. Still Hank Pym though. That was something I didn't know about this film. I thought it was gonna be Hank as Ant Man and it's not. Instead of the wife beater(who's still in the film) it's the pervert Scott Lang who is the Ant. http://i.imgur.com/QRDnxjV.jpg?1 Callin' it now. This film is gonna be a massive botch. Guest John Hancock
Marvel have got to hit a stinker eventually, they can't just keep making all of the money in the entire world.
etz 78
After Guardians and the next Avengers, they've got Ant-Man, another 1 for Captain America. I suppose then maybe another Thor or Iron man, possibly a Guardians 2. They're clearly doing something with the infinity gems, but is that building past Ultron to the 3rd Avengers? Guest Yodahew
Atm there is no plans for iron man 4. Thanos will be in guardians to continue him as big bad for avengers 3. Phase 3 will have cap 3, thor 3, ant man and possibly dr strange and finish with avengers 3. It looks like they are doing trilogies of each character but bringing them back for avengers. There was talk of black widow, hulk, black panther and guardian 2 but that looks likely to be phase 4 if at all for widow and hulk. I think they both work as supporting characters better than stand alones.

You can read some more details here.
Maxximus 353
Who was so hell bent on changing the script? Was it the money hungry producers? Sounds like Amazing Spider Man 2 all over again. Yeah no doubt this is gonna be a cluster f*ck. I won't bother on going to see this one. I'll wait for a torrent.
DC 536
Who was so hell bent on changing the script? Was it the money hungry producers? It seems like the order came from higher-level executives at Marvel and / or Disney as Kevin Feige was happy with the progress on the movie as well as the script and he's the President of the Marvel Studios. DC 536
Most people do, but it's not looking likely as Sony are never going to give up the rights to their biggest money-(web)spinner.
Guest The Beltster
****ing Sony, when do their rights run out or do they hold them indefinitely?
DC 536
****ing Sony, when do their rights run out or do they hold them indefinitely? So long as they keep making movies, the rights won't revert back to Marvel (which was the reason the God-awful version of Fantastic Four by Roger Corman was made). Sony have plans for Spider-Man that includes a third and fourth movie, as well as a Sinister Six and Venom spin-off, so it'll be a very long time before it becomes possible for Marvel to get him back. Of course, there's nothing to say the studios will never co-produces / finance a joint venture, it's just highly unlikely.
