Does anyone feel like just not doing all the Christmas things for one year? Not to be a Scrooge or be anti-Christmas or anything, but just simply bow out for one year?

I've been a partial Scrooge for a while. Gifts for my nephew and nieces only, and mailed cards to a handful of relatives and friends. If I get invited to a Christmas party (maybe 1 or 2 at most a year), I bring a decent but non-pricey bottle of wine or liquor. My only decorations are a few jingle bells on my doorknob.

I just can't afford to go as all-out as I'd like, not even halfway, and knowing that is honestly a little stressful.

There is the usual hype that comes with the festive season, and it is easy to get carried away and end up overspending. The point is not to overdo it but have something low-key but exciting at the same time.

I love Christmas and would never consider not going all out for it. I adore everything about the holiday. It's the one time of year that people seem to practice "good will towards men." And that's sad, but I'll take what I can get. I see nothing wrong with skipping Christmas if it's not your thing though.

@Boomer it sounds like you're doing loads really. It's thoughtful of you to buy pressies for your nephew and niece even when things are tight, and the wine sounds lovely.

I would like to skip all holidays to be honest. I'd rather just get on with working. But society says we must be merry and it's another opportunity to socialise so might as well make the most of it.
Sometimes I get bah-humbug about the crowds, traffic, and general pressure to spend more money around this time. I think people would be understanding if you opted out once in a while, @Dust and Rust .

No way would I skip Christmas. It's my favourite food holiday. The rest of it can go, but I live for delicious meals and treats during this time of year.

Do you guys who want to skip the holiday feel like you can't? Is it just family pressure?

I have two on my side so far......whaleshark and Ogmore.......have another cookie. :)

Gareth, I still have a significant other so we still play the game. But like others have said, we pare it down a bit year after year.
