The 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' remake has a Freddy...

I was worried how they would get anyone to replace Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger for the upcoming remake/reboot, but it appears that Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company have found the right man for the job...

Jackie Earle Haley is Freddy Krueger!

These days, web whispers are becoming truth faster and faster – and the latest example is Jackie Earle Haley’s casting as Freddy Krueger in the new Nightmare.

Yes, New Line has announced that the artist formerly known as Rorschach will indeed be donning the blade-spouting glove and horrific facial scarring to take over as the iconic dream demon, confirming what Latino Review reported in February.

The studio – alongside regular horror partners Platinum Dunes – started working on a relaunch of the Nightmare On Elm Street series last year and casting rumours have been feverish.

It’s no shocker that the companies want to bring Freddy back – before a little series called The Lord Of The Rings, Nightmare was New Line’s biggest cash cow.

While we’re sorry to see Robert Englund deposed from the throne (cameo, please!), Haley’s a damn good choice.

Samuel Bayer is making the move from music vids and adverts to direct the film, which starts shooting next month in Chicago.

Having seen Earle Haley's turn in Watchmen (he was easily the best part of the film), I feel confident that at least on aspect of the remake should be worth watching.

I don't know if I can stomach another Nightmare on Elm Street movie. The first couple were okay, but like everything else they did it to death (no pun intended). Same with the Halloween and Friday the 13th series.

I'd like them to do a remake of Black Christmas. That movie scared the crap out of me. Not only the ending but my dad worked with someone that owned the house they filmed it in. Weird.

There is a remake of Black Christmas Fi, its called Black Xmas and was released a few years ago :)

As for Freddy, I am glad to hear they have found someone who can probably pull of Freddy, but for me Englund will always be the man I associate with Kruger

I've got to agree with you there, DC. He will be very scary, he's an inspiration to short people like me everywhere. :lol

Fine DC, you got me on that one. Well done. Although the Bad News Bears pic was funny I thought. Hard to believe its the same guy.

With Krueger being cast, the next big role to fill is that of Nancy; and we have a winner...

A Nightmare On Elm Street Nancy cast!

Remake has its star...

Despite ourselves, we can’t help but have a grudging respect for the Nightmare On Elm Street remake folk.

Not only have they cast our dream Freddy – Jackie Earle Haley – but they haven’t taken the obvious route with lead girl Nancy.

We were expecting a bikini bimbo for the lead role. We were expecting a Kate Mara type (see below).

Instead, they’ve gone for a Rooney Mara type (below).

Now, we’re not saying Rooney's grotesque or anything, but she’s certainly more girl next door than girl-on-the-cover-of-Sports-Illustrated. Which, frankly, wouldn't be appropriate for this franchise.

While I'd agree with that, I'm giving Jackie Earle Haley a chance. He's absolutley perfect for the role, especially after his role in 'Little Children' and 'Watchemen'.

Hmm, that looks to be good.

It's got that chick from Harpers Island in it (I loved her death in that, so evil bastard style), and the guy who played John Connor in Terminator:SCC.

Also, am I the only person in the world who empathises with Freddy Kreuger and kinda thinks it's karma coming back on the lineage of the people who wronged him?
