PS3 or 360: What do I buy?

I mentioned not too long ago that I got a Nintendo Wii and someone said that my journey with it would be short.

Unfortunately, I am starting to think it was a waste of $211.44, even though my mom seems to like it and that was the main objective.

While I was getting a bit tired of Wii Sports, I got two Sonic games, Sonic And The Secret Rings & Sonic And The Black Knight, but I started on The Secret Rings and I find it difficult to control the character. I am hoping that I am just not used to having to actually move the controller to move the character.

I am already thinking about getting an XBOX 360 or Playstation 3 (as well as a new TV for my mom and a Blu-Ray player). I have heard that 360 is the better of the two systems, but what do all of you think?

In addition to playing the Wii (which I do about once a day), I have been playing Metroid: Zero Mission for Game Boy Advance (playing it on my DS).

As systems right now the PS3 is easy the better one, but there are advantages to the 360 that can make that the better purchase, depending on what you need/want.

The biggest advantages for the 360 are Live being better (I'm told, but nobody ever explains why its better) for online and there are more games for it (though the PS3 is catching up slowly).

The biggest advantages for the PS3 are free online play, the built in Blu Ray player and the face that out of the box it has wireless and a large HD.

There's the reasoned answer, now, cue the fanboyz...

Since you are the first, and only, one to answer my question. I will bother you with some more questions :lol

Now, I realize that a lot of games are made for both PS3 & 360, but is there any game on PS3 that I can not get on 360 and vice versa?

Can you connect wirelessly via the PS3 or 360? I assume that you can, since Wii does, but I want to make sure.

Also, don't you have to pay for online services for the two systems?

Is it necessary for me to play the original Bioshock before playing Bioshock 2?

Another question that I think I know the answer to, but I want to make sure of; can you play games from the original XBOX on the 360 and can you play PS2 games on the PS3?

Yeah, both have exclusives. Ones of note (IMO) are:

PS3 -

Heavenly Sword

Heavy Rain

inFamous

Little Big Planet

MAG

MGS4

Uncharted

360 -

Fable 2 and 3

The Halo Series

Project gotham racing

Yes to both. The PS3 is ready out of the box, the 360 needs an adaptor, though many packages include it.

Not for the PS3, its free online. The 360 has Live which is charged, but is better according to some people. I havent seen enough difference myself to justify the cost.

No idea, I havent played either. :lol

The 360 yeah no worry, the PS3 is IF you have one of the first models, but otherwise no.

PS3 also has Grand Turismo.

The elite 360's come with wireless, and the online I feel PS3 is better as I've not had the lag I get on 360.

To be honest I though 360 was better, but lucky for me noone has yet quit on me playing PS3, where the spoilt kids on 360 do.

In terms of Bioshock, the story is so rich and varied its BETTER if you play the first one. However, you could quite easily go straight to the sequel, as its lead has no link to the events of the first one. (or does it????........)

I disagree that the PS3 is better. I'd take a 360 over a PS3 any day of the week. Live is better than PSN and the game library, for me, is better. I cant be arsed to go into all the reasons why I prefer 360, its my personal preference. You'd be happy with either.

I didnt think you could use it now, or did I misunderstand?

Either way, whats so good about Live that makes it worth paying for? Nobody has ever given me a good reason.

I cant use it anymore, but I liked it more than PSN when I had it.

I prefer the layout, I prefer the things made available on Live, I never had problems with Live whereas I had alot of lag with PSN.

Put it this way: I dont have Live available to me so I cant use it, I have PSN available to me and I dont bother using it.

But its a personal preference like I said, I'm not saying live is better as a fact, I'm saying I prefer it.

No thats fine, I wont debate over what you prefer, just wondered as I always hear that Live is better, but I cant see why anyone would pay money just for a better layout.

You say you like whats added via Live more, such as what? Honest question mate.

I found both online fine and lag free. Just to add that. :lol

Well remember, I havent had Live for a little while so I dont know if Live and PSN have the same content added now, but back when I used both, PSN was chock full of Little Big Planet crap (I hate that game, with a passion) whereas Live had content for all the games I liked.

I also prefer XBL Arcade over anything that PSN has (or had).

I see, more just the add ons for games you like. Fair enough, I thought you meant something more like they gave you free porn printed on ten pound notes or something. :lol

Whats on the XBL Arcade like?

I loved alot of the games that were being put on the old XBLArcade. The old Turtles arcade game, Pac Man Championship Edition, stuff like that. The games that were on PSN I didnt care for, Dark Mist and that, not my cup of tea.

I might get another 360 and hook it up to Live just to use XBLArcade.

As for the pads, PS3 has the best pad ever, but I do like the 360 pad too. My g/f hates the PS3 pad, she says she feels like its too fragile and is going to break.
