Mac vs. PC

Which one do you have?

 

I'm a PC man, but I'm planning on purchasing a MacBook sometime in the near future. Does anyone on here have a Mac computer? What are they like? Are they value for money?

 

Any info would be appreciated.

I liked uses Macs for video editing, I haven't used one for anything else other than that though. I'm more of a PC guy, though I'd love to get a Mac myself.

Macs are easier to make dedicated for a use, such as DTP, a fashion item or for complete idiots who don't know a thing about windows etc :)

I considered getting a Macbook but the thing that put me off was how expensive they are or I'd of got it. Though I am very happy with my Vaio. Also if you are worried about Windows security and are feeling brave I've heard a lot of people say good things about the various versions of Linux.

My next computer will be a Mac for definate. I use a Mac for graphic design at uni, needs to have either a 20 or 25inch screen to make it useful for graphical work. Macs really aren't difficult to use, if anything they are more logical than windows.

i can't stand apple because.....

 

1) they are over priced

2) half as good

3) don't use WMA - guess that makes me a windows mark well, yes i am.

4) this is nothing you can do on a mac that you can't do on the PC, better, cheaper and without selling your soul

its a smaller file type with pretty much the same quality than MP3.

 

its like the ipod over rated and over priced. the only good thing apple has very done IMHO is the iphone

Smaller file size granted, but the quality lacks that of MP3.

 

Then there's the fact it isn't widely supported.

 

iPods are over priced, but you pay for the quality.

I suppose WMA is a trade off if you NEED the space but MP3 is superior and IIRC far better supported if you have a digital music player. Though all my music is on iTunes so I think that means it's in another filetype altogether which to my ear has good quality. I don't believe the Apple products are half as good as MS stuff either, infact the iPod and Macbook lines tend to be very well regarded and are highly desirable. The iPhone isn't too impressive compared to it's competitors though.

well i own a LG viewty and the WMA tend to be better quality than the MP3 on my phone. Granted it could be my phone but it has one perk it can have Iphone controls

Mac is better in so many ways, theres no way of saying that Windows is better. It simply isn't. I know that in terms of graphical work, if your worth your salt you use a Mac and programmes designed for the Mac i.e. InDesign. Windows pales compared to macs.

depends how you use it, if you brought a PC for the same value as a mac then you would have a vastly better system.

 

in terms of price PC wins all the time and spec. the mac may have its advantages but windows does have the CAD programs too which are good.

You do know that Apple was using Windows when everyone else was still using a DOS system don't you? Besides Microsoft didn't develop Windows, Xerox developed it in the 70's in their research facility at Palo Alto, California.

 

I don't know why everyone think Microsoft Windows is the living end. Have you seen a Sun Microsystems SPARCstation in action? That system would blow the doors off any PC or Mac on the planet today. I used to work on one, what a great machine.

 

Back on topic. I would love a Mac book but am still with a PC.

I have a Macbook Pro, but I have it partitioned, so I have Mac OS for most things, because, really Mac OS is infinitely better than Vista or even XP in pretty much everyway, like music, the internet, photos, stuff like that, and then I have a much smaller Windows partition so that I can still play games and stuff.

Thats how they've set our Uni computers up. Really don't understand why, when theres 300+ PC's yet around 50 Macs.

bang for your buck PC is greater than Mac hands down, mac may has specialist stuff but for cost per what it can do its not worth it especially for big firms or unis. for 99 % of the courses or work placed apps poeple need word, excel and maybe axces and microsoft rules that market that is why its 6:1 ratio of pc's to mac
