This is just what it says on the tin, if you are looking to figure out where to start with a band you just discovered or getting into a genre of music then ask here and hopefully someone can get you on the right track or recommend a site that can help.

I'm looking for music like Ladies Of Sport, particularly the songs "Schoolbus" and "The Product"

Perhaps this is kinda related, but I'm also looking to get into Chiptune, I downloaded the Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World game soundtrack and really liked it but dunno where to go from there.

Have a look for "Dawn Metropolis" by Anamanaguchi (they did the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim), it's a cracking little album, and as good a place as any to start with chiptune.

Anamanaguchi is pretty much entry-level chiptune, but you can't do much wrong with them at all. Their "Power Supply" album is also very good, so try to get hold of that. You might also want to check out 8bitpeoples.com too.

Also, try out Crystal Castles. They're not exactly chiptune, but they contain elements of chiptune in their music, it might not be to your taste, but it's worth check out.

Crystal Castles are bloody lovely, as are Colon Open-Bracket, Sabrepulse, You Love Her 'Cuz She's Dead and Unicorn Kid.

EDIT: If you're the kind of person who learns to swim by jumping off the high board and seeing what happens, give HORSE The Band, Sky Eat Airplane, and I Set My Friends On Fire a go.

I'm the same age as Boyo... am I becoming one of those old guys that tries to be "down with the kids"!

I'm afraid "I Set My Friends On Fire" were too screamy for me, which is a shame as the song titles, and the band name, are awesome just in and of themselves.

Downloaded Horse: the band's "pizza" EP their take on the TMNT theme tune's good.

Ah, the cool kids.... they don't exist, and if they did, they'd be the irrelevant ones. Seriously, college football players, cheerleaders, that whole "cool" set are destined for a life filled with mediocrity, knowing they'll never surpass the golden years of their fading, sagging youth.

Thanks, but life is shit enough without knowing it will never, ever be better than it was then. As a pessimist, I don't really expect life to get any better than it is, but at least I can hope it will instead of spiralling down into despair as the glory years slip further and further away.

Besides, haven't you heard, 50 is the new 25?

Christ, you can even etz up music threads now? I'm almost impressed.

Ya'll be aware that I made not have been being completely serious, and picked a number of the top of my head.

I'm making the transition from "cool kid" to "adviser to cool kids". :lol

That said, we have no cool kids in our area anymore. They're all too busy hanging round the Birmingham Cathedral graveyard comparing fringes to do cool things like starting their own band, or skating, or any of the cool stuff we used to do.

I wish I were exaggerating, but that's the awful truth.

You should all think yourselves lucky, I lost so much faith in the music industry that I don't bother looking anymore.

Yeah, the only way I find decent new music is either a recommendation by a friend or the side projects of bands I like/ bands that the bands I like, are fans of.
