New pics on set for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Most of them are to do with Rhino (Aleksei Sytsevich) and it looks like Paul Giamatti is having a blast playing the character.

 

It's also interesting to note that for some he's not in a suit and then the later ones he's wearing something that could be the Rhino suit (although it will definitely have some CGI enhancements come the finished product).

 

There are also some Electro pics, which again will be enhanced with CGI at a later date.

What I love is that Giamatti has obviously thought to himself "I'm in a comic-book movie; I'm going to go nuts".

It looks like we could be heading for The Sinister Six as many sites (including AICN) are reporting that Colm Feore has been cast as Adrian Toomes / The Vulture.

 

If that is the case, then this would bring the total amount of villains in the movie to four, with The Lizard already in there making five.

 

So far, we have -:

 

Norman Osborn (no word on whether he will become Green Goblin yet though)

Electro

Rhino

Vulture

Lizard (he is still alive after all)

 

This still leaves one more spot if the rumours are true, so it's thinking caps on to see who we think could make up the numbers (my money is on either Scorpion or Shocker).

Keep a keen eye out at 1:14 for an indication of where the future lies. By my count, that now makes six viable villains available in this Spider-Man universe.

It's not even the proper Sinister Six. No Kraven or Sandman (so far) and goblins didn't make an appearance until Return of the Sinister Six, and that was only Hobgoblin.

 

Pfft.

 

As a sideline, if they're having cybernetic-esque versions of Vulture, Doc Ock, and Rhino, then maybe we could see Scorpion put in an appearance?

It's not even the proper Sinister Six.

It's a different canon to the comics (similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe), so the incarnation of the Sinister Six they use will be the original for this version.

I hope it's not Spidey 3 overkill again, although the trailer made me very excited.

 

Not sold on Mech suit Rhino, I really just wanted a big suit with Paul Giammatis face sticking out. For anyone that's played TASM game on PS3/XBOX they gave a few Spidey villains back stories that blended with the cross genetics from the first film. While it's then just rehashing stuff from the first film, the game versions of Scorpion, Rhino and Vermin were pretty good.

 

Really hoping they don't do The D____ of G___ S_____ story now they've got Goblin. I'm fine with Harry being the Green Goblin first and not Norman, but truth be told Hobgoblin was always better

 

I'm still just relieved as yet there's no Mysterio, because nothing says we've took it too far than a man with a fishbowl for a head

I got no problem with it unless they direct refer to them as the Sinister Six. If it's just 6 guys and it's implied instead of spelled out, then I'm cool with it.

Empire's website has a comprehensive breakdown of the trailer and in the shot where Harry is explaining to Peter that Oscorp has been watching him, one of the items on the lists of things is named Venom.

I hope they're mostly just fun little Easter eggs. So many superhero franchises have been killed by an over reliance on the villains. Spiderman 3 2 would be a shame.

If they are going down the Sinister Six route (which all indicators seem to say that they are), then they will need to load up on villains in readiness for the third film.

 

As for TDoGS; that's pretty much guaranteed. Mary Jane was meant to be in this film, but they cut the character because they didn't want it to look like Peter was moving on after a major loss.

I think it's just too soon to have TDoGS in the second film when her Dad went in the first. Need more emotional attachment and to make it really mean something, this was after all a huge moment
