Mother Nature is crazy

I wonder if Mother Nature has some kind of PMS. Seriously, it's almost May and we have had snow at least one day every week for the whole month of April. It was sunny and 60 yesterday and today it's 40 and nothing but rain. It's supposed to snow again tomorrow!

We could attribute this to the greenhouse effect, a process by which radiation from a planet's atmosphere warms the planet's surface to a temperature above what it would be without this atmosphere. We could attribute this to human activities - like clearing of forests and burning of fossil fuels - that have accelerated this effect hence causing global warming.

The question then becomes, "what can we do to change things now and in the future?" We cannot deviate from industrialization, but we can place controls that limit the amount of carbon released to the atmosphere. We can plant more trees and increase the forest cover and so on.

Hmm, climate change. It’s true that the climate is getting more weird these days. I heard some of my foreign friends from the North saying that they didn’t have snow in the entire February but snow got crazy in late April.

Humans have been emitting greenhouse gases, and this has led to a rise in global temperature of more than 1-degree centigrade. See, climate change means more extreme weather, and different places are either experiencing record-breaking heat or more freezing conditions.

Climate change, a topic you hear about often.

It's 92 today and tomorrow our high will be 65. 92 is hot for this time of year, here. 65 is cool for this time of year, here.

I think mother nature is protesting.

We have had a very hot summer (short though). It's a high of 68 today and back into 80 degree days next week. It's just silly. Global warming or not. Although I don't think global warming has anything to do with the odd snow and cold we had.

It does. You can even do a similar experiment to see how it works. Fill a milk jug with water, freeze it, set it in front of a fan, turn the fan on, the air in front of the fan will feel cooler with the ice than without it. You can see the condensation gather in a puddle at the bottom and once the jug has warmed up, it will no longer have an effect at all. Global warming causes the polar ice caps to slowly melt and evaporate, it cools the air, the air blows, it mixes with the hot extremes, and wildness ensues like hurricanes, monsoons, and major storms. Once the cooler temp has dissipated you're back to your new normal - which on average is still hotter than usual.

Climate change is real, but the next question is how much is man-made and how much is natural. I mean, climate has always been in a state of flux, but it is quite difficult to measure how much is influenced by human activity. In a way, I hope the man-made element is significant, because at least then we can do something about it, and not just be at the mercy of Mother Nature.

It seems to be an accepted fact that one of the best ways to curb the effect of global warming that humans inflict on the world, is to become vegetarian! This is due to the amount of greenhouse gases cattle produce. It is second in importance only to the reduction of fuel consumption.
