Those boxers won't fight him because he's shot. His legacy has been tarnished badly enough that he has nowhere to go in boxing. He's a badly brain damaged, old man. The only reason the UFC can market him, is because their fans know nothing about boxing - If they did, the whole farce would never have happened. Edited by Jack

I think t's quite inaccurate to say MMA don't know anything about boxing. The same could be easily levelled at boxing fans in regards to MMA. People bought this fight because it had the freak appeal of boxer vs. MMA guy, even though that's not entirely true. I also know many boxing fans/people who watched the show thru genuine curiosity, and not many of them had hostility towards MMA/UFC before, during or after the fight.

They shot themselves in the foot by making it so one-sided because it didn't answer any questions about "boxing vs. MMA". It just proved that an MMA fighter beats a boxer in conditions massively suiting him.

It wasnt MEANT to answer any questions about boxing vs. MMA though. That wasnt what this was. It was a boxer coming into the UFC and trying to compete in the UFC, necessarily under UFC rules.

The fact that it was hyped as "boxing vs. MMA" doesnt mean it was supposed to be this objective experiment to determine the merits of the two sports, it means it was easier and more marketable to say "boxing vs. MMA" than "boxer joins UFC and attempts to do MMA". It was a marketing tagline.

It would be impossible to hype a fight as "boxing vs. MMA" and not have the fans think it was a test to see which was the better fighting style. For the UFC, it was marketing, like you said, but many fans wanted, and expected, to see a fight.

That cant be right, Brock, Couture and others have got close to 1 million a fight, from memory.

Unless I'm just totally wrong.

Maybe that was total money not just purse? Yahoo reported it anyway, so assume it's right, though it does seem a bit odd.

Remember though, there are other monies earned that are never released publically. Essentially the purses released are downside guarentees.

Apparently Toney made $750,000+, making him the biggest earner in UFC history.

Seems not as a base.

Details of the fighters salaries have now been posted at MMAJunkie. The payouts are as follows:

Frankie Edgar $96,000

B.J. Penn $150,000

Randy Couture $250,000

James Toney $500,000

Demian Maia $68,000

Mario Miranda $8,000

Gray Maynard $46,000

Kenny Florian $65,000

Nate Diaz $60,000

Marcus Davis $31,000

Joe Lauzon $24,000

Gabe Ruediger $8,000

Nik Lentz $22,000

Andre Winner $10,000

Dan Miller $30,000

John Salter $8,000

Greg Soto $12,000

Nick Osipczak $10,000

Mike Pierce $24,000

Amilcar Alves $6,000

These are just the base salaries, and dont include the $60,000 Fight of the Night (Nate vs Marcus) and Submission of the Night (Lauzon) bonuses. They also dont include any PPV percentages (Penn, Randy) and any 'locker room' bonuses.

So even if he did make 750k he still hasnt made as much as Brock (for example).

Some news...

Karo Parisyan has resigned with the UFC (after Dana White said he'd never take him back), and Silva/Sonnen II will appearently be on February 2nd, 2011

The UFC was hoping for the fight on New Years day 2010, but Silva's rib injury put the kybosh on that date.
