The "Random News and Comments" thread gets this every now and again, but because of how good a PS+ subscription is and the regularity of top-level games being available for free (well, the subscription cost aside), a thread devoted to it seems appropriate.

At present, these are the games that are available for free for PS3-:

  • Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
  • The Cave
  • Catherine
  • Demon's Souls
  • Ico & Shadow of the Colossus
  • Malicious
  • inFAMOUS 2
  • The Lord of the Rings: War in the North
  • MotorStorm Apocalypse
  • LittleBigPlanet 2

In the coming weeks, LBP2, inFAMOUS 2 and MotorStorm are being removed, which is a big deal as they have been on the list since the Instant Game Collection was introduced. In their place, we will be getting Uncharted 3, XCOM and LittleBigPlanet Karting.

In addition to the Instant Game Collection, there are also games that have discounts for PS+ subscribers, meaning the amount of games I've personally downloaded for free far, far exceeds the cost for being a member.

I genuinely can't recommend the service enough.

It's been a while since this was updated, but this month I've downloaded three free games (two were not in the PS+ section, but still) and PS3 owners can get Deadly Premonition for free from today.

On the PS4, there was -:

Injustice: Gods Among Us (Ultimate Edition)

Secret Ponchos

Invokers Tournament

Also, since the previous post, I've also downloaded for free -:

Dust: An Elysian Tail

Pix the Cat (cross-buy)

Spelunky (cross-buy)

Escape Plan (cross-buy)

SteamWorld Dig (cross-buy)

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (cross-buy)

And in January, we'll have InFamous: First Light and The Swapper.

Infamous: First Light and The Swapper have been really good and this month (right now), all you PS+ subscribers can get -:

Apotheon (PS4)

Transistor (PS4)

Thief (PS3)

Yakuza 4 (PS3)

Rogue Legacy (PS4, PS3, PS Vita Cross Buy)

Kick and Fennick (PS Vita)

While, to make way, the following have left -:

inFamous First Light

The Swapper

Prototype 2

DuckTales Remastered

Woah Dave!

Duke Nukem: 3D Megaton Edition

Load of crap this month. Transistor is highly rated but its complete trash.

I couldn't get into it at all. Rogue Legacy and Apotheon have been good though.

Here's what's on PS+ this month -:

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee — New ‘n’ Tasty! (PS4)

Valiant Hearts: The Great War (PS4)

Papo & Yo (PS3)

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments (PS3)

OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood (PS Vita | PS4)

CounterSpy (PS Vita | PS4 | PS3)

At the same time, what was listed for last month is now gone.

Four games for the PS4 for this month. :)

I've heard a lot of good things about OlliOlli 2. It's just a simple side scrolling skating game, but it looks fun.

Once you get a handle of the controls (which are surprisingly complex for the simplicity it has), it's a lot of fun.

The July line-up is being announced later this week, but Sony have said that in addition to the six games for the IGC, they will finally release the PS+ free edition of DriveClub.

Limbo (PS4)

Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)

Sound Shapes (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)

Here's the list for October.

Broken Age (PS4/PS Vita)

Super Meat Boy (PS4/PS Vita)

Unmechanical Extended (PS4/PS3)

Kickbeat (PS Vita/PS3)

Kung Fu Rabbit (PS Vita/PS3)

Chariot (PS3)

Broken Age is from Tim Schafer (creator of Grim Fandango) and it looks visually stunning.

Super Meat Boy, Unmechanical and Broken Age are all really good games and I'm working my way through them, so last month was good value for the subscription fee.

I'm also still playing through MGS: GZ, as well as Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris from earlier months and Limbo, Steamworld Dig, Teslagrad and Rocket League are all sitting on the XMB getting played by myself and / or Josh, so the PS+ membership is still a great little addition.

For November, this is what you get for your money alongside plenty of great discounts (seriously, go and check out the PS+ Discounts section or the Halloween-themed sale) -:

The Walking Dead Season 2 (PS4)

Magicka 2 (PS4)

Dragon Fin Soup (PS4/PS Vita/PS3)

Mass Effect 2 (PS3)

Beyond Good and Evil (PS3)

inviZimals (PS Vita)

I've taken advantage of the discount on The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, it's only a tenner instead of 15 quid. Decent!

I got a Battlefield 4 / Hardline double-pack for £15.00, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture for £10.00 and the arcade version of Double Dragon for £8.00.

I've left Arkham Knight until the GotY edition is released, so think Calvino Noir could be a nice diversion.

Great idea for a thread btw - the free games are always worth keeping an eye on
