Hulk Hogan’s racist remarks have been dominating the media in the past 24 hours, but is there more to come? According to Gawker CEO Nick Denton there is. Denton stated the Hogan lawsuit would feature, “a third act which we believe will center on the real story: the additional recordings held by the FBI, the information in them that is Hulk Hogan’s real secret, and irregularities in the recordings which indicate some sort of cover-up. In the way of so many news stories, the deeper you go, the more interesting it gets.

From wrestlezone. Wonder what we will get next?

I can kind of sympathise with racist to a point. But Hogan's point is way beyond mine.

To say you're not racist at all, and then make comments about dodgy nigerians, "hello, my name is Michael" and "Is that your best price, my friend?" , well, it's disingenuous to say the least.

Plus, I think you'll find a lot of people of his generation think the same way.

In fact, most religions still actively encourage this. Just try dating a middle eastern girl as a white bloke and see how well that goes down. You can substitute Nigerian, Jewish, etc for middle eastern too, yet that's just accepted. And I'm sure bible thumping pastor Bob from Texas or Arkansas would love it if his daughter came home with anything but a white as white whitey. Fuck, spanish people aren't white enough for those hicks, and they're actually white!

In summary, racism is stupid but we all do it to some extent because race is the most easily visible in group / out group trait, and our entire brain is built on the foundation of dividing people into in / out groups.

There's a lot of things out there that are up for discussion on whether something is racist or not, but this tirade by Hogan leaves no doubt in anyone's mind. What Hogan said is beyond inexcusable and, in my opinion, you can't fault WWE from trying to distance themselves from Hogan. Firing Hogan was absolutely the right move (though removing him from WWE.com is hardly going to make people just forget about the biggest money drawer in the '80's and early 90's) and firing him before the tidal wave of media attention was also a smart move (even though Hogan's attorney has claimed that Hulk "resigned" from WWE).

Not only is the rant terrible from a racial standpoint, but it's also terrible for him to talk about his own daughter like that. Openly talking about Brooke's sex life like that had to be embarrassing for Brooke (sure, Brooke is probably used to her father's antics, but still).

When I read this tirade for the first time, I immediately remembered the Michael Richards incident where Richards went on a similar rant when a heckler interrupted his stand-up comedy show (although the Richards incident was a lot worse considering Richards talked about murdering black people in very offensive ways). The Richards was nine years ago and he still hasn't recovered from it. People's perception of Michael Richards is forever tarnished and it will be interesting to see if Hulk Hogan will be looked at the same way.

Ever since the Hogan Knows Best reality show, it seems like, every few years, Hulk Hogan finds a way to put his name in the news for all the wrong reasons. Whether it be his divorce, dating a woman who looks like his daughter, or the Hogan sex tape(s), Hogan has a way of getting himself in trouble. I think this incident may be the worst yet from a publicity standpoint. I can't imagine anyone will want to associate their brand with Hulk Hogan for quite some time and there's a very good chance we may never see Hogan in WWE again.

what part of Ireland are you in mate?

As for Hogan, I totally agree with what @The Beltster said about everyone saying something racist in their lifetimes but 99% of us are not racists, it's a pity though that Hogan's memory will not be that he built the WWF as it should be.

I just hope that's it's now with him and there is not more to come out.

The hits just keep on coming...

It’s hard to believe Hulk Hogan’s public image could possible become any more tainted. The guy’s been the subject of a leaked sex tape, during which he went on multiple n-word-packed racist spiels, and then he compared himself to Barack Obama on Twitter in one of the most out-of-touch, inept attempts at image rehabilitation in recent memory. Well, strap yourselves in, brothers, because rock-bottom just got even lower.

Yes, the other intolerance shoe has dropped, as Radar Online has discovered Hogan making homophobic statements on one of his sex tapes. In one of the tapes, Hogan shares more offensive pillow-talk with his partner in porn, Heather Clem. Specifically, he discusses the upcoming season of his reality show Hogan Knows Best…

“VH1 wanted me to do a big thing and go back to the house I grew up in. So, we knock on the door, and a big f*g lives there now! This half-gay was enamored with Linda.”

In the same conversation, Hulk also reveals a scheme to sell his house to SoBe Entertainment mogul Cecile Barker to keep it out of his wife Linda’s hands in the divorce. This is of course the same guy Hogan was hurling racial epithets at in the initial conversation that got him in trouble. Add staggering hypocrisy to the list of things Hogan is guilty of.

A part of me just wants this slow-motion trainwreck to be over, but another part hopes this Russian nesting doll of horribleness just keeps going, because we’re officially into absurd territory here. Was Hulk also smoking crack and throwing adorable puppies in an incinerator while filming his racist, homophobic porno? Is there a run-in by Jerry Sags? At this point, nothing would surprise me.

Piper chips in...

As details from the leaked sex tape transcripts emerged, WWE was quick to separate themselves from the racist remarks made by Hulk Hogan. Not everyone took that tack, however, as Roddy Piper leapt to his defense in a somewhat bizarre tirade on The Rich Eisen Show. Like the very worst of a comment section trying desperately to look as unaffected by things as possible, Piper’s response was… worrisome at best. After telling stories about himself ordering “gringo burgers” at Mexican restaurants, and being greeted by 16,000 Puerto Ricans with knives at Madison Square Garden (your guess is as good as mine as to what the heck that means), Piper insisted that those concerned with Hogan’s racist tirade should “get a life,” and we “shouldn’t hurt people’s feelings for no reason.”

My point is that, boy, you guys are sensitive. Hang on. I know people who have to get up to walk five miles for water first thing in the morning. I’m just saying this literally happens to me my whole life. With Hulk, I don’t agree with all his choices, but you know what, I don’t hear people saying all the great things he does. When he was on the Wheaties box, all those kids that said their prayers and took their vitamins. I don’t hear them saying that. They just want to nail this.

Piper appeared a little more uh, lucid, shall we say, when questioned by TMZ Sports on Monday. He explains that he’s never seen Hogan use a racial slur in locker rooms before, and there’s no anti-Semitism in wrestling. According to him, pro wrestlers don’t have time to be racist. Oh, honey.

He continues:

One, it was a privacy issue in his own home. Two, his son was going through a really rough time. He’s trying to take care of his daughter. He’s trying to keep his family together. Do I condone it? No. But I think Hulk Hogan has done a whole lot more toward society than he has negative to our society.

Piper says that if his kids “were in that kind of jam, I’d have done whatever I had to, too.” But there’s a big difference between bailing your kids out of debt, or supporting them in a time of need than dropping a bunch of racial slurs after plowing your best friend’s wife, y’know?

While it’s easy to dismiss Piper’s comments as the ramblings of an expiring generation steeped in an industry that’s needlessly cruel to every person who isn’t a straight white male (and, who are we kidding, it’s pretty terrible to them, too), the dismissive, “just get over it already” attitude is what perpetuates acceptance of prejudice. It’s especially concerning when you consider that Piper was on The Rich Eisen Show in part to promote his work with anti-bullying charity Stand for the Silent. Maybe if we’re looking for an outside opinion, or even some kind of solace in the situation, we don’t look to old white dudes who came up in the same broken industry who are more than willing dismiss any offense taken by those actually affected by racism?

Yeah, let’s do that thing.

Hogan should come out on RAW, calling the audience a bunch of fat f*ggot n*ggers and money will be made!

Heel turn, bet he won't wear a black shirt this time.

WWE has started to remove Hulk Hogan merchandise from major online retailers such as Target, Walmart, Amazon and Toys R Us. No word yet on the removal of items from in stores but that's likely.

We noted when the Hogan scandal broke that WWE informed all licensees to nix any current and future Hogan projects they were working on. Mattel confirmed on Twitter today that they are halting production of all Hogan items. They wrote on Twitter:

Mattel

✔@Mattel

@mmoorewriter We are committed to embracing people from all cultures & backgrounds. At this time, we will halt production on Hogan product.

To be honest, this has all gotten pretty f*cking ridiculous. Firing him is fair enough, he deserved to be sacked and halting production on further Hogan products is also fair enough but removing him from history and pulling stuff thats ALREADY out in shops is beyond stupid. If people are mad at him, they wont buy it but recalling everything....stupid.

People who still work in the company and in positions of power have said similar things and other people who work there have undoubtably done worse.

No pointing in keeping it on the shelves if it isn't selling and I suspect if anything is being recalled there's money to be saved in doing so rather than having stuff returned as un-sold rather than any panic from PR.

I thought the whole Fag thing had already been put out there and Hogan apologised for it and it went away. Gay people don't really count though.

He'll be back in a very low key way in a couple of years, you just need to let the outrage die down enough to pop him back on the network unobtrusively, then a few t-shirts here and there etc then probably under the cloak of a bigger enws story he'll pop back into the HoF with no ceremony. I still doubt he'll appear on TV again unless it;s for something major like Vince popping his clogs or they wheel him out for WM 50 in a red and yellow wheelchair/iron lung.

And so Hulkamania ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with a racially damning ball of fire and brimstone!
